The Sleek New Angelus Chronodate Titanium Magnetic Silver Edition
Silver and black tones with vibrant red accents for the sporty chronograph with a pointer date.
Following its revival in 2011, Angelus has focused on building an impressive series of purpose-built movements. In 2022, Angelus introduced the Chronodate with a bi-compax chronograph and pointer date combo. While the Chronodate references the brand’s 1942 model when Angelus was enjoying its heyday as a leading manufacture of chronographs, the reinterpretation is contemporary. For Geneva Watch Days, Angelus introduces a titanium version of the Chronodate with a silver dial, black counters, and red accents for a sleeker, more understated look.
The new titanium Chronodate features this collection’s complex case architecture with a rigid yet lightweight carbon-fibre composite container for the movement surmounted by the openworked titanium cradle that unites the case middle and lugs in a single line. Other distinctive features of the case are the angular black carbon composite pushers with red markings flanking the crown. The crown has a black carbon composite ring and is protected by pronounced and hollowed guards. The 12 wide notches on the titanium bezel extend over the case and are highlighted by a contrasting black rubber ring. Measuring 42.5mm across with a thickness of 14.25mm, the titanium elements of the case are satin-brushed, extending to the mono-link bracelet (also available with a black rubber strap).
In keeping with the spirit of Angelus’ chronographs produced between 1940 and 1960 with large, legible counters, the Chronodate features two prominent counters (running seconds at 9 and 30-minute elapsed times at 3 o’clock). To stand out against the smooth sunray-brushed Magnetic Silver dial, the counters are metallic black and slightly recessed with snailed interiors. Another key trait of the original Chronodate was its peripheral pointer date ring, featured on the external silver track with black numerals and indicated by the central red arrow-tipped hand.
Legibility is further enhanced with the large 1940s-style Arabic numerals and syringe hour and minute hands filled with Super-LumiNova. The central chronograph seconds hand has a red tip to match the red hand in the 30-minute counter. At noon is the Angelus applique.
The reverse side reveals the La Joux-Perret calibre A500, a sister company of Angelus. Based on the Valjoux 7750, this automatic movement with a column-wheel chronograph has been reworked to power the pointer date hand. It runs at a frequency of 28,800vph, has 26 jewels and a 60h power reserve. The tungsten rotor depicts a vintage Angelus logo formed by a capital ‘A’ straddling a star to evoke the idea of a bell and clapper.
The Chronodate Titanium Magnetic Silver Edition is not limited. The model on a rubber strap retails for CHF 23,000 (incl. tax), while the titanium bracelet is slightly more expensive at CHF 25,100 (incl tax). For more information, please consult angelus-watches.com.
