As a watch enthusiast and a fan of classic motorsport (superficial, but still), the Union Glashütte Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2025 struck me immediately for the clear connection to the 1952 Grosser Werkmeister, the from-behind-the-Iron-Curtain, one-off East German-built racing roadster that inspired it. It´s amazing how Union Glashütte ties its themed design to mechanical heritage. This Noramis Chronograph edition delivers a genuine story, nice execution, and mechanical credibility, capturing the spirit of post-war adventure. Just like the “Great Werkmeister” that inspired it, this Union is built to move and to be admired.

The Case

The Union Glashütte Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2025 stainless steel case measures a stout 42mm in diameter and 14.45mm thick. It is not small by modern standards, but it balances presence with wearability quite well. The finishing is classic Union, with satin-brushed flanks and polished accents. The pump-style pushers have a lovely tactile action, and the upper one, with its red stem, seems to have had its colour lifted from the bright tachometer zones on a 1950s racing dash. A box-shaped sapphire crystal completes the vintage silhouette, giving the watch the charming distortion when viewed from an angle. The caseback, fixed by four screws, is engraved with the “Sachsen Classic 2025 Limitierte Edition” inscription and individual number. With 100m water-resistance, the watch is ready for road trips, rallies, and simply active weekends.

The dial

The dial is where the 1952 roadster connection becomes evident. The silver perlage finish is reminiscent of the polished metal dashboard of the Grosser Werkmeister. Imagine how each circular pattern caught sunlight differently as the car sped around the Sachsenring! The surface is burnished by hand; thus, one might say each watch is unique, as each gets its unique texture.

Two black subdials bring a strong contrast. The left one is merging the running seconds and date window, the right one measures chronograph minutes with a bright red hand. That same red continues on the central chronograph seconds hand, the minute track and the small “Limitierte Edition” text at 12 o’clock, injecting the right amount of motorsport energy without overtaking the dial. The applied chrome rings around the counters are another subtle nod to the car’s instruments. Hours and minutes are indicated by the black hands with Super-LumiNova inserts.

The movement

The Union Glashütte Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2025 is powered by the Union’s UNG-27.S2 calibre, an in-house finished and upgraded Valjoux 7753. It features a silicon hairspring and provides 65 hours of autonomy, running at 28,800 vibrations/hour. The chronograph operation feels precise and firm, making one feel the engineering behind every click. Through the sapphire back, the movement displays Glashütte-style striping and blued screws.

The details

The Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2025 is worn on a black calfskin leather strap, with its double silver-grey stitching giving off a vintage racing vibe. It’s soft and closed with the double-fold clasp. On the wrist, the watch feels surprisingly balanced for a chronograph of this size. The watch is a limited edition of 350 pieces, priced at EUR 3,600.
