Graham Chronofighter Grand Vintage – From Big to Bigger

Graham Chronofighter Grand Vintage - Baselworld 2018

Launched almost 20 years ago, at a time when the trend for larger-than-life watches was still in its infancy, the supersized Graham Chronofighter is known as a big, rugged, bold chronograph. Inspired by historical military stopwatches, its signature lever allows to start/stop the chronograph without fail and with the thumb – the fastest of all fingers. For Baselworld 2018, the brand introduces a new version, still based on the vintage-inspired collection, named the Graham Chronofighter Grand Vintage… And yes, after being scaled-down, it now becomes large again.

A couple of years ago, the brand presented the Chronofighter Vintage. Graham did a great job revamping the watch into a less angular version that feels much more in the vintage spirit; the onion crown, the pusher and the start/stop trigger were all tastefully redesigned. Last but not least, it was downsized to 44mm.

Presented at Baselworld 2018, the Chronofighter Grand Vintage goes back to the brand’s original spirit, returning to oversized dimensions. At 47mm, the steel case has a prominent wrist presence with its left-sided chronograph configuration, large aperture and domed sapphire crystal. Yet, it wears smaller than its diameter would suggest, thanks to its ergonomic lugs. Water resistance is of 100m / 10 ATM.

The new model is offered in four different dial versions: blue, brown, silver or black. It is sun-brushed with a radial gradient. The sub-dials have a nice snailed pattern. The golden hour markers, Arabic numerals at 12 o’clock and broad hands are coated with luminescent material ensuring optimal legibility in all circumstances.

Turning the watch over the exhibition case back allows you to discover the movement. The Chronofighter Grand Vintage is powered by automatic calibre G1747 based on the ubiquitous Valjoux 7750. The reliable cam-and-lever chronograph comes in a version with a central chronograph seconds and a 30-minute counter. The date is indicated at 9 o’clock under a magnifier. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it can store up to 48-hours of power reserve. Its finishing includes Geneva stripes and perlage.
