Glashütte Original Adds New Dials and Casual Styles To The Senator Excellence Collection

More colorful, slightly larger and with an overall younger design!

Glashutte Original Senator Excellence steel 42mm - Baselworld 2018

At Baselworld 2016, Glashütte Original introduced a full new Senator collection named Excellence. Originally comprising no less than 4 different versions (time-only, tima-and-date, date-and-moon and perpetual calendar), it was only available with a classic design – Roman numerals and blued hands. For Baselworld 2018, the Saxon brand adds some casualness to two of the versions. Here are the Senator Excellence Panorama Date and Date and Moon with new dials and 42mm steel cases.

These new versions in the Senator Excellence Collection only concerns two of the models, the Panorama Date and the Panorama Date Moon Phase – certainly the most desirable of them all, as showing some complications but more affordable than the QP. Following its new strategy to create younger and more casual watches, the Saxon brand brings several evolutions to these two watches, not only for the dial, but also for the case. Indeed, while previously available in a 40mm steel or 18k red gold case, these new variants are only offered in steel and with a new 42mm diameter.

The second evolution concerns the dial. No more Roman numerals or classic blued hands here. Instead, Glashütte Original goes more modern with Dauphine hands and tringular applied indexes – still elegant for sure, but less formal than before. Three new colours are also introduced: silver, blue and white. Before, the only choice for the Senator Excellence Collection was a grainy off-white dial.

The finishing is different on all three models. The galvanic blue dial features a sunray decoration, the galvanic silver-grey dial is enhanced by a vertically brushed finish and the lacquered white dial has  a smooth matte surface.

Here are the 3 new versions of the Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Panorama Date (each of them available either on leather strap of steel bracelet):

And here are the 3 new versions of the Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Panorama Date & Moonphase (each of them available either on leather strap of steel bracelet):

These two watches are powered by the same movement – just different on the dial side, depending on the complications displayed. Visible through the sapphire caseback is the Calibre 36, offering an impressive 100 hours of power reserve, it features 43 jewels and oscillates at 28,800 vph. As always with the brand, the movement is beautifully decorated and features a Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish, bevelled edges, polished steel parts with perlage, and a skeletonized rotor with 21ct gold oscillation weight.

The movement is also reliable and precise. Together with an individual examination certificate, the brand guarantees the owner that his watch meets the highest standards with respect to stability, running time, precision and aesthetics and that it has been thoroughly tested over the course of 24 days – under conditions even more demanding than those governing German chronometer certification testing.

The new Glashütte Original Senator Excellence Panorama Date will be priced at EUR 9,200 on leather and EUR 10,700 on steel bracelet. The Senator Excellence Panorama Date & Moonphase will be priced at EUR 10,200 on leather and EUR 11,700 on steel bracelet. More details on www.glashuette-original.com.

  1. I’m in my mid thirties and own 3 glashutte watches. It is my favorite brand but I’m not very glad to see the strategy oriented towards more casual watches.
On the watches in this article now, my preferance goes to the gorgeous blue dial panorama moon phase. Simply stunning.
