The Fantastic Girard-Perregaux Bridges Cosmos Returns as a Unique Piece
A one-of-a-kind reinterpretation of the brand´s fascinating astronomical complication watch.
The Girard-Perregaux Bridges Cosmos was first introduced in 2019, a show of technical ambition with a hint at philosophical intent. It was (and still is) an impressive watch that provided an emotional and physical connection between the celestial and the terrestrial worlds. Its construction centred on the brand´s signature tourbillon setup, with the addition of two rotating globes that displayed sidereal and civil time, a miniature planetarium. In 2025, Girard-Perregaux made a unique piece that reinterprets the original using new materials and refined surface treatments.
The new Bridges Cosmos Unique Piece maintains the same construction, complications, and movement of its predecessor, the in-house calibre GP09320. What changes is the aesthetic, and as often with timepieces like this, it is all that´s needed.
The dimensions of the new Girard-Perregaux Bridges Cosmos titanium case remain the same: 47mm in diameter and 22.2mm thick. There’s no crown; the four functional rotating bows (bélières) on the back manage all adjustments: winding, time setting, and globe synchronisation, with a luminescent pictogram marking each bow for its respective function, a useful detail that was missing on the original Cosmos but introduced with the later editions. The sapphire box crystal enhances the visibility of the domed dial. The semi-circular sapphire back integrates the winding mechanism. The engraving confirms the watch´s status as a unique piece. Water resistance is 30m.
The dial keeps the original Cosmos’s distinctive appearance but introduces a two-part construction: a base of Tahitian mother-of-pearl overlaid with translucent blue aventurine. At 6 o’clock, the one-minute tourbillon is held in place by a sandblasted titanium Neo Bridge.
At 9 o’clock, the celestial globe with the constellations of the Zodiac completes a full rotation every 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds, the length of a sidereal day. Opposite it, at 3 o’clock, the terrestrial globe rotates once every 24 hours, serving as a day/night indicator, with daytime visible on the dial side and nighttime visible through the back. The globes are made from titanium, finished with laser oxidation for texture, and treated with lume for blue emission in the dark. Time is read from a dedicated black sandblasted dial at 12 o’clock, with a sunray-brushed outer ring with applied white-gold markers, and dauphine hands with blue Super-LumiNova.
The calibre GP09320, used in the 2019 Cosmos, later Infinity (it got a few moments in our 2020 video), the Hour Glass special editions, and the new Unique Piece, comprises 368 components, including 52 jewels. It operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour and delivers a 57-hour power reserve. The movement is finished to haute horlogerie standards: sandblasted titanium bridges with hand-bevelled edges, circular-grained mainplate, and black-polished screws.
The new Girard-Perregaux Bridges Cosmos is offered on an anthracite calfskin strap with a nubuck finish and hand-stitching, closed with a titanium triple-folding clasp. Unique piece, price is upon request. As a reference only, earlier limited editions were priced a little short of EUR 400,000. More details at girard-perregaux.com.
