The Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar Skeleton Blue of Dawn Limited Edition
Pulling back the covers on one of GO's finest, in the Blue of Dawn.

About a decade and a half ago, I started to get a little bit more interested in watches. Not knowing the ins and outs yet, I started with what was familiar to me, the mainstream brands. But that quickly transformed when I learnt of brands such as Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre and the like. German high-end brands also came onto my radar, and won me over instantly thanks to a brilliant mix of clever engineering and a dedication to the purest forms of watchmaking. Ever since, I have had my eye on the Glashütte region, the country’s watchmaking epicentre, including, of course, Glashütte Original. Not too long ago, GO launched the PanoMaticCalendar, a watch that made a lasting impression thanks to its clever month indication. Now, though, it gets its covers pulled back, as this is the Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar Skeleton Blue of Dawn.

Limited to 150 pieces, Glashütte Original’s latest gives you exactly what it says on the cover; it’s a calendar watch, finished in blue, with a skeletonised construction. Fairly straightforward, you’d say, but we’re not leaving it at that. What the PanoMaticCalendar Skeleton Blue does is uncover the intricacies of what is a very handsome and cleverly constructed movement, in a rather contemporary and appealing way that’s perfectly representative of not only GO’s watchmaking capabilities, but that of the Glashütte region as a whole.
Set in a 42mm by 12.2 mm-sized platinum case, similarly styled, brushed and polished as its rose gold predecessor, the PanoMaticCalendar Skeleton Blue of Dawn embraces a rather contemporary set of dimensions. The dark blue dial, inspired by the deep blue tones during the early hours of the day, is cut open to reveal the details of the in-house Calibre 92-11 that drives all the indications (more in a bit). That means we get a full glimpse of the hallmark Panorama Date complication and its dual-disc setup, and additional bits of the mechanics that are normally hidden from sight. The arrangement of the indications is familiar territory; off-centre hour & minutes with integrated small seconds to the left, moonphase display at 2′ and the brilliant retrograde month indication between 3′ and 6′.
As mentioned, it is fitted with Calibre 92-11, which is the openworked version of the Calibre 92-09 we know from the 2022 closed dial version. This in-house automatic movement runs at a frequency of 4Hz, and delivers a very generous 100 hours of power reserve. While the top plate is skeletonised, the reverse side is not. Yet it follows in the footsteps of the debut model in terms of finishing, with the signature “Double G” rotor and double swan-neck regulator.
The Glashütte Original PanoMaticCalendar Blue of Dawn Limited Edition comes in a run of 150 pieces, and is worn on either a blue Louisiana alligator leather strap or a synthetic fabric strap with a platinum folding clasp. The price is USD 43,800.
