Girard-Perregaux Updates Its Delectable Tourbillon With Three Flying Bridges
Small tweaks to the exterior and interior mean this highly fascinating watch now looks better than ever.
Inspired by a famous pocket watch made in 1889, Girard-Perregaux regularly plays around with its signature-shaped bridges. One of the manufacture’ most fascinating pieces that take notes from this early GP creation, is the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges. From every angle, it’s a highly fascinating piece to behold. The curved crystals, the swooping black PVD-coated golden bridges, the floating movement elements and so on. It’s just a brilliant execution from top to bottom. And yet, Girard-Perregaux has found ways to improve it, as it presents the subtly updated Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges.
Aesthetically, not much has changed at first glance but the updates involve several key elements that make it look and feel better than ever upon closer inspection. The rose gold center case has been redesigned for instance, with shorter lugs and a rounder profile. It also has a larger and newly shaped crown for improved grip, and sapphire crystals with a stronger and more symmetrical curve. On the inside, the updates concern the new double marker at noon, plus reshaped satin-finished hands with a touch more Super-LumiNova. Overall, the improved ergonomics and finishing touches to the ‘dial’ and hands should help with wearing comfort and legibility. Small changes, but they go a long way!
The in-house GP09400-1273 movement has been left untouched but remains a spectacular feast for the eyes. The completely openworked construction makes it seemingly float inside the case. Everything is sandwiched between the three gold and black PVD-coated bridges, with everything from the keyless works to the barrel and of course the tourbillon in full view. The movement is comprised of 260 components and indicates central hours and minutes, with small seconds on the tourbillon. It’s wound by a micro-rotor placed under the barrel, both suspended under the top bridge.
Where the previous edition of the Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon With Three Flying Bridges came on a black alligator leather strap with a rubberized effect, the brand now puts it on a black rubber strap with a textile effect for an even more contemporary look and feel. If desired, you can swap it out for the complementary black alligator leather strap with a golden effect that comes with it. Both are closed by a triple-folding buckle matching the material of the case. The price is set at CHF 164,000 – GBP 146,000 – EUR 180,000 – USD 171,00.
