Alpina gives its 39mm Seastrong Diver Extreme a turquoise makeover inspired by the Atlantic and the Route du Rhum.
After recent releases like the Startimer Pilot IFR Chronograph and the slimmer Startimer Pilot Automatic models, Alpina is back with a new watch. The all-new Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic Route du Rhum edition is another iteration of the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic introduced in 2024. This was an interesting release because it brought together Alpina’s Extreme cushion-shaped case and 300m water resistance of its Seastrong line. It also kept things compact at 39mm. However, this latest model isn’t just another update, as much has changed. The bright orange of the 2024 model gives way to a Route du Rhum-themed blue and black treatment, with sailing-inspired details and Route du Rhum branding that separates it from the regular Seastrong Diver Extreme.
The 39mm stainless-steel case of the Alpina Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic Route du Rhum measures 40.5mm lug to lug and 13.4mm thick. It gets a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, along with a bidirectional bezel that has a carbon-fibre insert, and this does look neat. The bezel gets a compass scale that is completed with four cardinal points and 360-degree markings, and it has a screw-down crown with a rubber grip and solid caseback for that solid dive watch performance at 300m.
The dial of the Route du Rhum edition is done in turquoise, with a grained surface engraved with a map of Atlantic Ocean currents. With a turquoise outer ring and white minute track, the watch face offers a good amount of contrast. Talking of contrast, there is more when you add the applied silver-coloured indexes and hour and minute hands, while the seconds hand finds contrast in its red triangle. You will see the date sitting at 6 o’clock, and the number 13 is coloured in red for the race’s 13?? edition.
Powering the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic Route du Rhum is Alpina’s AL-525 automatic movement (Sellita SW200-1 base). This movement beats at 28,800 vibrations/hour and achieves 38 hours of power reserve. The watch comes paired with a two-tone rubber strap that has a textured black central section and side flanks in turquoise, and this is finished with a steel pin buckle. Limited to 313 pieces, the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic Route du Rhum is priced at CHF 2,195.
