Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud marks a significant moment in its modern history, with the release of the Chronomètre FB 3SPC Seddiqi 75th Anniversary. A three-piece platinum edition created for the 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the influential Dubai retailer and one of the manufacture’s first partners when the brand was revived in 2015. The project highlights a shared lineage built on chronometry, craftsmanship and long-standing support, and it lands just as Ferdinand Berthoud celebrates its tenth anniversary. The watch is based on the FB 3SPC, introduced in 2022 and distinguished by its cylindrical hairspring, an exceptionally rare construction inspired by an 18th-century decimal pocket watch by Louis Berthoud. The Seddiqi edition preserves the original design but enhances it with its own palette and finishes.

The 42.3mm platinum case retains the classical round profile, with a domed sapphire crystal, a glareproofed exhibition back and the signature sapphire porthole at 9 o’clock offering a lateral view of the beating hairspring. At the rear, the sapphire pane carries Seddiqi’s sandblasted 75th-anniversary emblem, marking the exclusivity of this micro-series.

The dial side continues the FB 3SPC philosophy of framing the movement rather than hiding it. The peripheral inner bezel ring and matching small seconds subdial are executed in black varnished brass with a velvet finish, their engraved numerals and scales picked out in gold. Beneath, the movement receives an exclusive champagne-toned sandblasted treatment, contrasted by gilded wheels and natural nickel silver bridges for the regulating organ. Time and indications are expressed through 18-carat yellow gold hands, diamond-polished, open-tipped and skeletonised for the hours and minutes, with matching hands for the seconds and power reserve.

The hand-wound calibre FB-SPC remains the centrepiece, conceived around its cylindrical balance spring with hand-formed Berthoud terminal curves and mounted on a variable-inertia balance secured by the dedicated bridge. The regulating organ, escapement and pallet lever are positioned vertically at 9 o’clock, creating the distinctive three-level column that can be admired from the front and side. The movement beats at 21,600 vibrations/hour, delivers a 72-hour reserve through a slip-spring barrel, and features a stop-seconds mechanism for precise adjustment. As with all Berthoud creations, every bridge and surface is crafted in nickel silver and finished by hand.

The watch is offered on a hand-stitched alligator leather strap, available in various sizes and colours on request, with an 18mm platinum pin buckle. With only three examples produced, the Seddiqi Anniversary edition will be available exclusively through Ahmed Seddiqi in Dubai. The price is upon request, but for reference, a similar version in platinum released earlier this year was priced at CHF 158,000. More information at ferdinandberthoud.ch.
