Eska Launches the New Racing Chronograph Automatic, a Sub-500 Euros Take on Motorsport Design
A fresh, youthful take from the reborn Eska brand, offering the joy of mechanical watchmaking in an accessible, youthful package.
Originally founded in 1918 in Granges, Switzerland, Eska Watches vanished during the quartz crisis and was revived in 2024 by Christophe Chevreton and Sinicha Knezevic. The partners quickly captured the essence of Eska’s heritage and adapted it to modern trends. The rebirth began with the Amphibian 250 dive watch and the Heritage Chronograph, both assembled in France, merging vintage design with contemporary execution.
Now, the brand launches the Eska Racing Chronograph as part of the new Light collection, described as a series dedicated to colour, accessibility, and everyday enjoyment. The launch coincides with Lyon’s famed Fête des Lumières, as the Racing Chronograph translates the brand’s youthful energy and pays tribute to the founders’ hometown in France.
The Eska Racing Chronograph is housed in a 316L stainless steel case, measuring 41mm in diameter and 12.8mm thick (14.9mm including the sapphire crystal on top). The screwed caseback is engraved with an image of Lyon’s skyline, a nod to Eska’s new home and the city’s long watchmaking tradition. The case design, the chronograph pushers, and the fluted crown present a familiar image that is thus reassuring. Water-resistance is 50m.
The new model offers a bi-compax layout and comes in two versions: the Racing Azur, with a vertically brushed blue dial accented by white tracks and a red central chronograph hand; and the Racing Sunset, pairing a matte salmon dial with blue minute tracks, white indices, and a contrasting blue chronograph hand. The Sunset features italic numerals for a vintage look, the Azur opts for baton indices and large numerals at 12 and 6 only: two designs with distinct personalities but the same retro spirit. On both, the 30-minute chronograph counter is positioned at 3 o’clock, balanced by the small seconds at 9.
The Eska Racing Chronograph is powered by the SL4617 automatic chronograph calibre, a movement clone of the classic ETA/Valjoux 7750, produced by Liaoning Peacock Watch Co. in China. Operating at 28,800 vibrations/ hour, it provides a 45-hour power reserve. While straightforward, the movement aligns with Eska’s approach of affordability; the watches are assembled in France.
The Racing Chronograph is worn on a stitched leather strap and is delivered with a travel pouch, a nice touch for a watch priced at EUR 408 before taxes. For more information, visit eska-watches.fr.
