The Eska Amphibian 250 Destro, a new Lefty Take on the Tool Watch
The fun, accesible and vintage-inspired dive watch returns in a cool Destro style.
In a market overcrowded with vintage-inspired dive watches, ranging from truly affordable models to high-end watches produced by esteemed brands, Eska, a name with over 100 years of history (with a stop from 1987 to 2024), has managed to find a place for its cool-looking, well-built and fairly priced Amphibian 250 collection. Modelled after a 1960s tool named the Amphibian 600, the new model carried over the original spirit, paired with modern production methods. Following the core models in black and white, as well as red and green limited editions, it’s time now for the cool retro watch to turn things upside down, with the new Eska Amphibian 250 Destro.
The name Destro often refers to Panerai and its watches meant for left-handed owners, with the crown positioned at 9 o’clock instead of the traditional 3 o’clock position. This architecture, historically designed for operational use, improves comfort on the wrist for left-handed users and reinforces the watch’s functional character. Besides providing a natural alternative for left-handed wearers, it also offers practical advantages for certain military uses and for diving by reducing the pressure of the crown against the wrist, even for right-handed users wearing their watches on the left wrist. And, it also simply looks kind of cool and different – even though even Rolex now has such a watch…
With the Amphibian 250 Destro, Eska doesn’t change the recipe much. What you’ve come to expect from the classic collection – which you can see here – has been retained: classic 1960s style, skin-diver look with unprotected crown, wide bezel with a lumed sapphire crystal countdown insert, screw-down crown, brushed and polished surfaces and double-domed, vintage-styled sapphire crystal. Water-resistance… As you’ve guessed from the name, a very decent 250m.
What has changed mostly is the position of the crown, which now sits at 9 o’clock, freeing the right side for those wearing the watch on the left wrist, and naturally making left-handed users’ lives easier. The Amphibian 250 Destro is available in the two standard dials, in black or white. They both retain their sandwich architecture, with ultra-bold printed numerals at cardinal points, and the arrowhead minute hand for improved legibility.
Inside the case is a Sellita SW200 automatic, a proven Swiss-made movement known to be reliable and easy to service. Worn on a sand-colored Tropic strap and delivered with an additional black textile strap, the two versions of the Eska Amphibian 250 Destro are part of the core collection and not limited. Price is EUR 850 (excl. VAT). For more details, please consult www.eskawatches.com.
