David Candaux, a native of the Vallée de Joux with experience at Jaeger-LeCoultre and collaborations as a concepteur horloger for renowned brands, launched his own brand in 2017 with the DC1. The watch that followed, the DC6, established his signature: a bassinet-shaped case, a 30° inclined flying tourbillon, and the patented “Magic Crown” at 6 o’clock. After earlier forged carbon versions, for the new DC6 Night Forest, Candaux chose UD (unidirectional) carbon and titanium to create a lighter, just 45 grams, more durable, and more technically interesting watch.

The DC6 Night Forest case measures 45mm by 11.29mm and boasts a more complicated construction while retaining the DC6’s asymmetrical architecture. The movement sits within a sealed titanium container, providing structural rigidity and water resistance, while the exterior is made of UD carbon. Unlike forged carbon, UD carbon uses continuous fibres layered with precision, resulting in a more homogeneous and resistant material.

When you look at it, the case shifts constantly, from random textures to a directional, almost organic grain. Light reveals subtle striations, closer to those found in natural materials like wood than in industrial composites. Titanium elements, lugs, internal stretchers and crown provide contrast and mechanical integrity. The assembly is entirely mechanical, with no adhesives involved. The signature “Magic Crown” remains at 6 o’clock, retractable and pressure-activated. Sapphire domes stay, for the dial and the tourbillon, so does the sapphire caseback. Water resistance is 50m.

The dial introduces new colours and elements, while the layout remains characteristic of the DC6: hours and minutes at 3 o’clock, power reserve at 12, and the tourbillon at 9, doubling as small seconds. For reading time by conical hands, a domed titanium base gets a sunburst finish and is anodised to a deep topaz green, reminiscent of alpine lakes. A translucent black edge is airbrushed for a smoked effect. Applied numerals in silver powder appear suspended within the dial, and the black-gold minute track frames the display. The hand-finished titanium guilloché plates featuring the “Pointes du Risoux” motif remain a defining component.

The watch is powered by the in-house calibre H74, developed and assembled in Le Solliat. The movement with cascading titanium bridges is inclined by 3° relative to the case. The flying tourbillon is inclined at 30°, a functional solution to improve chronometric performance by an efficient averaging of positional errors. The tourbillon cage is made of black-treated titanium through micro-arc oxidation. The movement runs at 21,600 vibrations/hour and delivers a 55-hour power reserve via twin coaxial barrels. Titanium is used extensively for the bridges and mainplate, while the gear train combines beryllium copper wheels with steel pinions. Finishing is of a high level, with hand-polished bevels, inward angles and the brand’s signature “Côtes du Solliat.”

The DC6 Night Forest is worn on a handmade black rubber strap with topaz green stitching and a Velcro closure. Limited to eight pieces, the watch is priced at CHF 248,000 and comes with a 10-year warranty. For more details, please visit DavidCandaux.com.
