Regulators have been a Chronoswiss trademark for over 30 years. Inspired by yesteryear precision master clocks, their characteristic display separates time indications for precision time reading. The Lucerne-based watchmaker has designed various iterations of this traditional watch type, and now present a 50-piece limited edition in bright electric blue.

Presented at Baselworld 2019, the Flying Grand Regulator Open Gear ReSec (for Retrograde Seconds) stands out with its raised, floating display, creating a striking sense of depth. At 6 o’clock, a retrograde second creates a playful animation: its hand travelling 120° before swiftly jumping back to zero, every 30 seconds.

If you are confident in your ability to wear striking colours or like to stand out, the electric blue DLC-steel version is definitely the bolder iteration of the model. It comes in a blue-on-blue case, dial and strap combination. The round, cylinder case is 44mm in diameter. It features the brand’s signature onion crown, straight lugs and side knurling. It is water-resistant to 100m/10ATM. The hand-guilloché dial has cylinder-shaped indexes fitted with luminescent material for optimal readability. At 3 o’clock is a badge, engraved with the individual limited-edition number of the watch.

Inside is the automatic Chronoswiss calibre C. 301. It is based on an extensively modified ETA 2895, the version of the tried-and-tested 2892, but with small seconds instead of central seconds. The regulator/retrograde seconds mechanism is fully manufactured and designed in-house by Chronoswiss. The movement operates at 28,800 with a power reserve of 42 hours. A stop-seconds mechanism allows for precise time setting. Visible via the screw-down exhibition case back, the movement is decorated with Geneva stripes and pèrlage. The open-worked rotor is blued to match the colour theme of the watch.
