The Gemset Bezels of the New Chopard Alpine Eagle Summit
Ethical gold and gradient coloured gemstones embellish Chopard’s luxury sports watch.
Now in its sixth edition, Dubai Watch Week will be in the spotlight from 16-20 November as a stage for 60 participating watch brands to unveil their novelties. Chopard will introduce a gem-set solid gold version of its luxury sports watch, the Alpine Eagle, in four variations with different combinations of gradient-coloured stones set in the bezel.
The Alpine Eagle luxury sports watch collection debuted in 2019, based on a sporty-chic Chopard model from the 1980s known as the St. Moritz. Featuring a tonneau-shaped case with a raised round bezel with eight functional screws and a radiating textured dial that recalls the iris of an eagle’s eye, the Alpine Eagle collection is home to everything from straightforward time-and-date models to chronographs, and from flying tourbillons to high-frequency models.
The quartet of Alpine Eagle Summit models respects the collection’s design and are presented in 41mm ethically sourced 18k yellow, white or rose gold cases with a thickness of 9.7mm. Protected by crown guards, the 7mm screw-down gold crown with its engraved compass rose ensures the 100m water-resistance of the case, and the three-link bracelet flows seamlessly into the case. The tonneau-shaped case and the highly polished central link on the ethical gold bracelet are throwbacks to the original St. Moritz.
In addition to Chopard’s two watch manufactures in Fleurier, the brand has its own jewellery workshop in Geneva, where the Haute Joaillerie collections come to life; it is also where the cutting and gradient setting of the different coloured gemstones for these watches are performed. The raised and polished bezel hosts 36 stones harmonising with the gold case and dial with its elegant swirling textured pattern. All four models share applied baguette-cut diamond hour indices and applied gold Roman indices at XII, III, VI and IX treated with Super-LumiNova like the central area of the hour and minute hands. Unlike other 41mm Alpine Eagle non-gem-set models in the collection, the date window has been eliminated from these models.
Inspired by the golden rocky summit of the Mont Blanc massif, the yellow gold model has a textured “Golden Peak” dial with pink and white sapphires set in the bezel. There are two white gold models, one with an electric “Zinal Blue” dial inspired by the Zinal glacier with brightly coloured blue and purple sapphires in the bezel and the second model, picking up on the quartzite stone of Graubünden with a more discreet “Vals Grey” dial with an assortment of gradient green tsavorites and white sapphires. The pink gold model plays with warmer tones, and its “Pink Dawn” dial is complemented by orange and tawny spessartites and white sapphires in the bezel.
Equipped with the Chopard 01.15-C automatic calibre with COSC chronometer certification, the movement delivers a 60-hour power reserve and has a stop-seconds function to set the exact second. The four Chopard Alpine Eagle Summit watches will be available exclusively in Chopard Boutiques; the price has yet to be confirmed. For more information, please consult Chopard.com.
