Some technical solutions “belong” to certain brands. Although Carl F. Bucherer is neither the creator nor the only brand to use peripheral winding movements, the Lucerne-based manufacturer can be said to have made peripheral technology a trademark technical solution. Though peripheral rotors are becoming more ubiquitous these days, Carl F. Bucherer has to be credited as the brand that brought the concept to modern serial production (back in 2009). In 2018, the Lucerne-Based manufacturer presented its Double Peripheral Tourbillon, evidencing its desire to explore peripheral systems further. It’s now time to present a watch combining three peripheral technologies! Meet the new and complex Manero Minute Repeater Symphony.

Before talking about peripheral technology, the Manero Minute Repeater Symphony is, above all, an elegant yet spectacular timepiece and the most complex watch ever created by Carl F. Bucherer. This minute repeater tourbillon stages its intricacies in a truly original way: its finely grained white gold dial reveals the captivating ballet of its tourbillon floating at 12 o’clock, as well as the governor and hammers of the repeater mechanism. Limited to 88 pieces, the watch comes in a 43.8mm rose gold case with openworked and hand-angled lugs. The individual numbering of the model is hand-engraved on a small gold plaque at the 6 o’clock position.

Turning the watch over, the view via the exhibition caseback is no less spectacular. The original architecture of the automatic MR3000 manufacture movement reveals a peripheral rotor and the strike work mechanism. This 35.70mm movement can store up to 65 hours of power reserve, and its precision is chronometer-certified by the COSC. Its decoration is traditional with diamond-bevelled bridges, Geneva stripes and perlage.

Importantly, a protective mechanism prevents inadvertent misuse: the crown cannot be pulled out when the repeater mechanism is running and locks automatically. Conversely, when the crown is pulled out, the repeater mechanism is locked too. Visible via the discreet display at 9 o’clock, the current mode of the watch is indicated – a blue dot shows that the crown is pulled out, and a musical note lets the wearer know that the minute repeater function is activated.

Triple peripheral – setting new standards in the field of peripheral technology

In watch movements, rotating parts are usually guided by centrally mounted pivots fixed on the plate or bridges. hHghly original, the Manero Minute Repeater Symphony combines three peripheral mountings whose parts rotate on their own periphery and are guided by rollers, also on the periphery. First, the movement features a peripheral 18k peripheral rotor. The Tourbillon is also peripherally mounted and literally seems to be floating in space, just like for the Manero Double Peripheral. Last but not least, the minute repeater mechanism is also regulated by a governor featuring a peripheral mounting. This patented regulator is visible dial side and rotates in between three low-friction ceramic ball bearings.
