As the year slowly comes to an end, the days get shorter and winter sets in, the festive season is upon us to warm our hearts. Whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving, Hannukkah, Kwanzaa or Christmas, or all of them for that matter, it’s a time of joy, warmth and the comfort of friends and family. To help you narrow down a horological outfit for the season, we have a very handsome set of watches lined up in this week’s Buying Guide. And what better watch to wear than a dress watch? With that in mind, here’s our selection of some of the best and sometimes surprisingly accessible dress watches of the year!

Raymond Weil Toccata Heritage

Surely one of the dress-watch highlights in 2025 is the Raymond Weil Toccata Heritage. The slender oval case is nice and compact, and free of frills or unnecessary details. It comes in polished stainless steel or with a rose gold PVD coating, and a silver, blue or copper sunray-brushed dial. It uses only two hands to tell time, with baton hour markers to keep things simple and clean. Inside, we find Calibre RW4100, which is a manually wound Sellita SW210-1B at heart. Worn on a leather strap or stainless steel multi-link bracelet, the Toccata Heritage wears lovely, looks the part, and retails for a sensible EUR 1,495 to EUR 1,625.

Nomos tangente gold

When it comes to classics, the Nomos Tangente ranks up there with the finest dress watches on the market. Part of the inaugural collection presented by Nomos in 1994 and part of the collection ever since, it remains a best-seller. The latest editions get a more luxurious touch thanks to a solid yellow gold case. Available in silver-white with golden hands, blue hands or a black dial with golden hands, it’s a sure-fire stunner. It’s powered by Nomos’ own Calibre DUW 3001 Neomatik, which delivers 43 hours of power reserve. Fitted to a leather strap, this Tangente Gold retails for EUR 9,800, which isn’t cheap but seems quite fair given the case material!

Tissot Classic Dream Powermatic 80

If you want value for money and something Swiss Made, the Tissot Classic Dream Powermatic 80 is impossible to ignore. Priced between EUR 475 and EUR 515, depending on the case finish and strap or bracelet you want, you get a no-nonsense mechanical watch. It’s a perfect gateway watch that simply looks good! Ok, it might be a bit on the contemporary side, and purists consider a dress watch not to have a date, but we’re nitpicking here. The 40mm wide stainless steel case houses the Powermatic 80 automatic, fitted with a Nivachron anti-magnetic hairspring and covered by a solid caseback. Well played, Tissot!

Seiko Presage Classic Series SPB529

Seiko’s very broad watchmaking portfolio never fails to impress, and one of the brand’s finest dress-like watches in recent times is the Presage Classic Series SPB529. Its charm comes from the soft brown gradient dial, golden hour markers and hands, and that golden-brown coin-edge lower bezel. It’s a very subtle touch that brings a ton of charm to the watch. Fitted to a leather strap made with high-end shoe maker REGAL, and powered by Seiko’s Calibre 6R55 automatic, it’s a well-rounded watch altogether. Limited to 3,000 pieces and retailing for EUR 1,120, this one will not look out of place at your office Christmas party!

horologically unique hu-01

Many argue that Patek Philliped nailed the dress watch design with the famous Calatrava 96, but that’s well out of reach for most. The HU-01, the first watch by watch-collector-turned-microbrand Horologically Unique, doesn’t hide its inspiration one bit, yet does modernise it a touch. The 36mm case has a flat coin-edge bezel and houses a gloss black or cream white dial. Breguet-style numerals, leaf-shaped hands and a recessed small seconds subdial complete the iconic look. Ticking away around the back is a Peseux 7001, which is wound by hand. Both dials are limited to 100 pieces and presented on a black leather strap, for a price of SGD 1,800 (approx. EUR 1,200)

Furlan Marri Disco Volante

If you’re looking to spice things up a little, the Furlan Marri Disco Volante might be perfect for you. The classical proportions already give it boatloads of character, with its tucked bracelet/strap connection, saucer-like case design and recessed crown. Add to that a black Onyx dial with six lab-grown diamond hour markers (the one at noon is doubled), a woven-style mesh bracelet and a nice manually wound movement, and it becomes something rather special. You could tone it down with the black leather strap that also comes with it, but we wouldn’t, to be honest. The price is set at EUR 3,500 and it’s limited to 100 pieces for this year, with more to come in the next year.
