The Stylishly Blue Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Joins The Ranks
An efficient, legible, and very fashionable GMT sports watch from the Parisians.
Inspired by cockpit instruments and aviation in general, from the gigantic 46mm BR 01 in 2005 to the smaller versions of the popular “functional instrument watches for professionals and civilians alike” in the 42mm BR 03 family, the Paris-based brand is always en vogue. With international travel back to its pre-Covid numbers, the appeal of the watches that make you want to hop the time zones is on the rise. Bell & Ross lets you do it (or dream of it) in style with the new offer in the BR 03-93 GMT series, this time with a bright blue dial.
Bell & Ross, synonymous with the aviation-themed design, had to create a GMT or dual-time model, and so in 2007, the BR 03-51 GMT Titanium was presented, which paved the way for future GMT references. Later the company went on and released a carbon version in 2013, there were models in the V2 range, and the first Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT was revealed in 2016. The model got a nice update in 2021, with some changes to appearance and functionality, keeping the proportions and basic technical specs.
The new BR 03-93 GMT Blue is undoubtedly familiar, as it is a variant of the 2021 model. It does not make it any less enjoyable, especially if you like the already iconic, recognisable from a distance, time-tested “circle-in-a-square” Bell & Ross design. The sizeable 42 x 42mm steel case with polished and satin-finished surfaces looks solid and professional-like but also dressy.
The four hands – the hour, the minute, the seconds and the GMT with a prominent red tip, represent different shapes and styles, perhaps to serve better legibility. The flat, brushed applied Arabic numerals and the Super-LumiNova coated hour indices contrast nicely against the bright blue dial surface. The tiny date indication aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock (white date on a blue disc) does not disturb the dial design, which appears busy but not confusing at all.
The case features a bi-directional rotating bezel with an anodised aluminium insert to allow the display of a third time zone. With this new reference, it is a two-tone blue and grey with a 24-hour scale, making the watch a perfect and stylish travel companion. The solid caseback protects the inner works, with the watch being 100m water-resistant. The movement inside is the automatic BR-CAL.303, which is based on the Sellita SW-330. This movement runs at 28,800vph and supplies energy for 42 hours when fully wound. The GMT setting is performed via the crown with one-hour increments in both directions.
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT Blue has a blue calfskin leather strap, and an additional ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric strap with a pin buckle is included with the purchase. The watch is part of the regular collection and retails for EUR 4,400.
