Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada

When looking at the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada, the 1981 hit-song Golden Brown by The Stranglers comes to my mind. There’s just something about the gold and brown colour scheme that has me humming the song’s characteristic melody in the back of my mind. Bell & Ross, however, envision the BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada as a watch to take a little break from the field of aviation, the common theme within most collections. It takes inspiration from the world of cigars and is the third special edition by Bell & Ross to do so.

The Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada is an adaptation of the existing BR 05 collection, which has been part of the brand’s portfolio since 2019. The chronograph was introduced a year later and has seen multiple guises since. The BR 05 is pretty much a softer, more rounded variety of the signature circle-within-a-square design that put Bell & Ross on the map.

The case for the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada measures 42mm in width and 12.4mm in height. The base is made of stainless steel and is given a brushed and polished finish. On top, there’s a steel and 18k rose gold bezel with Bell & Ross’ signature screws on the corners. On the right-hand side, we find a screw-down crown with guards and steel chronograph pushers. A sapphire crystal covers both sides of the case.

The brown dial comes with applied rose gold-plated indices, numerals and hands. It’s basically familiar territory all the way around, as we’ve seen this layout used before. The sub-registers for the running seconds and chronograph 30-minutes are shaped similarly to the case, with a rounded-squared design. For contrast, they too are finished in a rose gold-tone with a brown centre. The chronograph indications get a distinct touch of red to stand out against the gold and brown backdrop.

Power comes from Bell & Ross’ Calibre BR-Cal. 301, which is a modular automatic chronograph based on the ETA 2894-2 architecture. This movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and has 37 jewels in total. Driven by a skeletonized rotor with a special medallion, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, it indicates hours, minutes, running seconds, date, chronograph central seconds and chronograph 30-minutes.

The Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edición Limitada is fitted to a brown rubber strap with a grooved pattern and a folding clasp, or a bracelet with steel outer and 18k gold inner links with a folding clasp. It is limited to 250 pieces and retails for EUR 7,900 on rubber and EUR 11,900 on the bracelet.

  1. Lol, even for the photos they could not find a watch with centered seconds indicator.

  2. Although I own the blue BR05 version, I would never wear and pay for a steel/ gold B&R with an ETA movement inside.
