Young Brand Beda’a Presents its Eclipse II, with Jumping Hour Display
A characterful watch with a regulator-style jumping hour complication.

Founded in 2016 by Qatari entrepreneur Hader Al Suwaidi, Beda’a was born from the vision that the Middle East region could be not just a market for luxury watches, but also a contributor to the industry. The brand’s trajectory is now shaped by engineer-designer Sohaib Maghnam acting as CEO and Chief Designer. Before joining Beda’a two years ago, Maghnam studied in London and Milan and then started making watches under his own name. The brand’s singular universe is structured around 4 collections Attrayant, Fortress, Angles and Eclipse. Among the brand’s distinctively shaped designs, the latter is the only round watch. Following the success of the Eclipse I with a dragging hour disc and mysterious minutes, it is now time for a second chapter.

Just like its predecessor, the Eclipse II shows hours digitally – but this time with a jumping hour rather than a dragging hour disc. The compelling dial of the Eclipse II features, from top to bottom, the jumping hours, the minutes and the seconds with an original crown positioning at 6 o’clock, resulting in a regulator layout. The different indications are put in perspective by an eye-catching multilayered dial.
The lower part features polished and satin-finished cream motifs that serve as a backdrop for two subdials that together form a figure eight. The hours and minutes subdial at the top is in aventurine while the small seconds subdial at the bottom is deeply textured with a circular satin finish. According to the brand, this composition was inspired by Qatar’s majestic desert, its windswept sands and star-strewn night sky.
The original round 37mm case is fashioned out of 904L stainless steel. Its design is characterized by a rather large bezel and expressive curved lugs. It houses the calibre BMJ-01. This automatic movement is based on the SW300, the Sellita clone of the reliable and precise ETA 2892, with a jumping hour module by additional mechanism specialist Dubois Depraz. Not everyone realizes that the jumping hour is a complex and exacting complication.
It needs to jump precisely on the hour after accumulating power to release it all at once, with one swift movement but with no extra bounce. Running at 28,800 vibrations/hour, the calibre BMJ-01 delivers 52 hours of power reserve. The stop-second mechanism allows for precise setting. It is visible through the see-through caseback with a blackened rotor.
The Beda’a Eclipse II comes on an alligator or ostrich leather strap with a pin buckle. The production is limited to 100 pieces per year. Price is set at CHF 4,000. For more information, please visit bedaawatches.com.
