Indian Brand Bangalore Releases the MACH 1 Avalanche
This latest Indian, aviation-themed watch celebrates the high-altitude flights of mountain rescue helicopters.
Since 2019, Bangalore Watch Company has been expanding its MACH 1 portfolio to honour local aviation like the Indian Air Force MiG 21, Indian Navy Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant R11 and Indian women in commercial aviation. The latest MACH 1 Avalanche celebrates high-altitude mountain rescue helicopters at the peaks of the Himalayas. The thin air makes it difficult to maintain lift while biting cold and rugged terrain add to the extreme dangers of high-altitude rescues.
The stainless steel case is blacked out with a matte PVD coating and is very wearable at 40mm in diameter and 10.8mm in height (46.5mm lug-to-lug). A flat AR sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the solid, screw-down caseback shows a helicopter flying above mountain peaks. There’s a tapered push/pull crown and water-resistance is rated at 100 metres. The watch has a black leather strap with white stitching and a signed pin buckle.
The white dial has a pattern that represents fresh, powdery snow and it also carries a motif de grain that provides a shine/lustre in different lighting conditions. The minutes hand has bright red stripes that mimic an airspeed indicator, while the seconds hand has a broad orange tip. All hands and perimeter dots have C3 Grade-A Super-LumiNova. Black Arabic numerals are printed every five minutes from 05 to 60 in the Type B Flieger style, and a black date window sits at 6 o’clock.
Powering the MACH 1 Avalanche is a Sellita SW200-1 automatic with 26 jewels, a beat rate of 28,800vph (4Hz) and a power reserve of 38 hours. Functions include central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and date. Introduced in 2012, it’s the primary alternative to ETA’s 2824-2 with an accuracy rating of +/-12 seconds per day.
The Bangalore MACH 1 Avalanche retails for USD 1,200. For more information and to place an order, please visit Bangalore Watch Company’s website.
