Audemars Piguet is putting the minute repeater back in the spotlight with three new Supersonnerie creations. The two Royal Oak models offer contrasting materials and dial colours, while the Code 11.59 takes a more contemporary approach, revealing movement elements beneath a sapphire dial. All three are powered by the manually wound calibre 2953 and feature the manufacture’s patented Supersonnerie technology.

First introduced in 2016 with the Royal Oak Concept RD#1, the Supersonnerie resulted from eight years of research involving Audemars Piguet watchmakers, musicians, and researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). The objective was to overcome some acoustic limitations of traditional wristwatch minute repeaters, where the sound of the hammers striking the gongs can be dampened by the movement and case construction.

AP’s solution is a soundboard, positioned between the movement and the caseback, on which the gongs, also developed for acoustic optimisation, are mounted. The board resonates, amplifying and projecting the sound. A specially designed regulator also minimises mechanical noise, so nothing interferes with the chiming sequence. These three new watches once again test the system with different case materials and designs.

Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie Titanium 26591TI

Fundamentally identical to the 2021 Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie Titanium (ref. 26591TI.OO.1252TI.03), the first new reference is housed in a 42mm titanium Royal Oak case measuring 14mm thick. The familiar combination of satin-brushed surfaces and polished bevels gives the architecture its characteristic dance of light. The integrated titanium bracelet maintains the collection’s cohesive appearance.

On the new watch, the dial features a smoked green finish with a satin-brushed sunburst motif that darkens toward the periphery. A tone-on-tone small seconds counter sits at 6 o’clock, and the minutes track is interrupted by the rhodium-toned pink gold hour markers filled with lume. White gold hands, also filled with luminescent material, indicate the time.

Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie Pink Gold 26591OR

The second Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie, for the first time in the series, is presented in an 18-carat pink gold case. It retains the same 42mm diameter and 14mm thickness as the titanium edition, but the material change creates a very different presence on the wrist. Its brown Grande Tapisserie dial is paired with a matching small seconds subdial. Pink gold hands and luminous hour markers complete the composition. An integrated pink gold bracelet is closed with an AP folding clasp.

Both Royal Oak references feature sapphire crystals, screw-locked crowns and casebacks, and 20m water-resistance.

Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Minute Repeater Supersonnerie 26395BC

The third model revisits the Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie first presented in 2023. Its 41mm case is crafted in 18-carat white gold and measures 13.6mm thick. Unlike the Royal Oak models, the case middle is entirely polished.

As with the earlier pink gold version, the smoked sapphire dial is a distinctive feature, partially revealing the workings of the calibre 2953. The minutes track and the rim around the small seconds are made using galvanic growth, adding texture to the otherwise open appearance. White gold baton hands and hour markers sit against the darkened background and have no lume. The caseback incorporates the Supersonnerie soundboard and its fine openings, essential elements of the acoustic construction. Water-resistance is 20m. The watch is worn on a grey alligator strap closed with a white gold AP folding clasp.

Calibre 2953

All three watches are powered by the same manually wound calibre 2953. Measuring 30mm in diameter and 6mm thick, it comprises 362 components. The movement operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour and delivers a 72-hour power reserve. The minute repeater mechanism is activated by the slider on the left of the case.

For all these new references, prices are available upon request, but expect prices above CHF 350,000. For more details, please visit www.audemarspiguet.com.

  1. Wow, now also AP starts writing limited edition on the back of the case like Hxxxx? This should not happen in the luxury segment!
