The New Armin Strom Orbit Purple Edition

Armin Strom embraces the trend and adds a fashionable purple to its original Orbit watch.

The Armin Strom Orbit, with an innovative on-demand date display, debuted in 2022. It was initially launched as a limited “First Edition” before Armin Strom added a permanent collection reference with a black time subdial the same year. Just ahead of Watches and Wonders 2025, Armin Strom introduces a new version by adding a trendy purple colour to the Orbit, though production will be limited to 20 pieces.

Mechanically unchanged, the Armin Strom Orbit Purple retains the same specifications as its predecessors, with updates focused on aesthetics. The stainless steel case, water-resistant to 50m, measures 43.4mm in diameter and 12.6mm in height. It features a black DLC coating, a fixed black ceramic bezel with date markings, and the word “DATE” highlighted in purple. The case is finished with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. The pusher to activate the date function remains on the left side; when pressed, the centrally mounted hand – now tipped in purple – moves to indicate the current date. A second push returns the hand to its neutral position. The date setting can be performed via the crown moving time forward, and there’s a date corrector integrated into the case band for rapid correction.

The dial showcases a purple gradient finish, with an integrated running seconds subdial that subtly protrudes without disrupting the watch’s balanced yet highly technical aesthetic. The numerals at 6 and 12 and the hour indices are treated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability. Faceted and polished rhodium hands, also filled with Super-LumiNova, complete the design.

The Armin Strom Orbit Purple, like other Orbit references, is powered by the ASS20 calibre, based on the movement of Armin Strom’s Gravity Equal Force that provides consistent power delivery to the regulating organ for superior chronometric performance. The ASS20 operates at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations/hour; the sapphire crystals front and back expose the movement to view. On the front, the three openworked bridges are holding the barrel, micro-rotor and winding mechanism in place, and above the time dial, a column wheel, which is part of the on-demand date mechanism, is another component of the 273-part movement worth mentioning. The finishings include chamfered and polished edges, polished chatons and perlage graining.

In contrast with the other Orbit editions, which were paired with an integrated bracelet, the Purple is worn on a black textile strap, closed with a DLC black-coated stainless steel pin buckle. Again, Armin Strom Orbit Purple is a limited edition of 20 pieces, costing CHF 36,000. For more information, please visit arminstrom.com.
