When Amida returned in 2024, it brought back one of the most distinctive watch designs of the 1970s. The Digitrend, originally launched in 1976, stood apart from conventional watches with its horizontal digital display viewed through a prism, giving it the appearance of a futuristic LED watch. The concept was faithfully revived in 2025 by the Open Sapphire edition, which exposed much of the movement within a transparent sapphire structure. For 2026, Amida continues with the new Digitrend OSII Black (for Open Sapphire II Black), a darker interpretation that introduces a fully luminous display.

While the overall silhouette remains, the Digitrend OSII Black evolves the Open Sapphire concept. The compact 39.6mm by 39mm case, 15.6mm thick, retains its distinctive wedge-shaped profile and dimensions, ensuring comfortable wear despite its unconventional architecture. While the earlier Open Sapphire edition featured a display caseback, this one features a solid caseback secured with four screws. Water-resistance is 50m.

The large, transparent sapphire top allows light to enter the watch, revealing the internal display components from multiple angles. According to Amida, the sapphire element is machined from a single block and serves as both a protective shield and a central design feature. With the internals visible, Amida has redesigned the construction beneath the sapphire. A new black-coated steel framework surrounds the proprietary jumping-hour module, creating a more structured and technical appearance.

The new luminous display is another key development. Thanks to the increased light transmission provided by the sapphire hood, the jumping-hour and scrolling-minute display can now be fully charged and remain visible in darkness. BGW9 Super-LumiNova illuminates the numerals, while additional luminous accents on the internal framework create what the brand describes as a distinct “nocturnal form”. The Amida logo is no longer displayed on the top plate.

Like previous versions, the watch relies on Amida’s Light Reflecting Display (LRD) system. The jumping hours and scrolling minutes are displayed on horizontal discs and read through the optical prism positioned at the front of the case. The mechanism is driven by an in-house-developed module mounted on a Soprod Newton P024 automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations/hour and delivering a 38-hour power reserve.

The Digitrend OSII Black (or Open Sapphire II Black) is worn on a black Alcantara strap with orange calfskin lining and quick-release spring bars. An integrated steel bracelet is available as an option. Limited to 150 pieces, the watch is priced at CHF 5,150 on a strap or CHF 5,500 on a bracelet, excluding taxes.
