Alpina Introduces the More Compact & Openworked Alpiner Extreme Skeleton Automatic

A smaller case with an openworked dial in sleek monochromatic attire or with blue accents joins the Alpiner Extreme family.

With Geneva Watch Days in full swing, Alpina unveils two skeletonised versions of its Alpiner Extreme Automatic. Positioned as the most robust, action and adventure-oriented collection at Alpina, the Alpiner Extreme Automatic strips down and reduces the size of its time-and-date model with two models: one with a sleek monochromatic look and the other in steel with blue rubber accents.

The Alpiner Extreme is characterised by its powerful 41mm x 42.5mm cushion-shaped stainless steel case with a thickness of 11.5mm. However, the new skeletonised editions introduce a slightly smaller 39mm diameter with a length of 40.5mm coupled with a height of 11.5mm. The bold, three-part case has a raised round bezel with six exposed screws with the Alpina triangle and the crown is flanked by guards to ensure the 200m water-resistance. Visually balancing the case, the left side has an elongated protective bumper to match the crown guards and protect the movement.

The surfaces of the case, bezel and lugs have a sporty brushed finish, while the bevels, screws and crowns are polished. The blue model features a blue rubber-clad crown grip matching the colour of the flange and the embossed rubber strap. The grey model is monochromatic and is fitted with an integrated steel bracelet matching the finishings of the case.

Replacing the characteristic triangle patterned dials of the Alpiner Extreme, the new models flaunt openworked dials, revealing the Swiss automatic movement (sourced from Sellita) powering the watch. Beneath the network of openworked bridges, certain components, including the large barrel and its mainspring between 4 and 6 o’clock, the wheel train and the escapement at noon, can be seen. The monochromatic steel version plays with different textures and, according to the brand, employs 50 shades of grey. For example, the flange has a matte-grained finish, the indices suspended over the dial and hour and minutes hands are brightly polished by hand and filled with luminescent material, and the openworked bridges are vertically brushed. The second model features similar finishings, but the flange is blue. Both references share the red triangle-tipped central seconds hand.

The sapphire crystal on the screwed-down caseback reveals the automatic calibre AL-520, a Sellita SW200-1 base with a customised black rotor, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours.

The monochromatic Alpiner Extreme Skeleton Automatic with an integrated steel bracelet retails for EUR 2,695; the model with blue accents and a rubber strap for EUR 2,395. For more information, please consult alpinawatches.com.

  1. Nicely done, but has the world been waiting for a skeltonized Sellita SW-200?
