Following the trio of porcelain-dial watches launched in 2025, German brand Glashütte Original continues its collaboration with Meissen, bringing together two Saxon manufactures, with Glashütte Original responsible for the watch and Meissen for the porcelain dial. While earlier editions explored the “Mystic Maison” and “Collage” motifs, the latest Senator Meissen edition turns to a long-established image in decorative arts, the cherry blossom.

The release is timed well, as the artwork is inspired by the flowering of winter cherry trees such as the Japanese Jugatsu-zakura, which can bloom as early as October. Against the white porcelain dial, the delicate blossoms appear in shades of white and pink, complemented by the tones of the red-gold case.

The Senator Meissen Cherry Blossom uses the same 40mm red-gold case as the 2025 editions. Its 10.2mm height and 47.09mm lug-to-lug measurement give it the proportions of a contemporary dress watch, and the mostly polished case’s restrained, deliberately understated design lets the dial decoration be the centre of attention. A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the porcelain dial, and a sapphire crystal caseback allows a view of the movement. Water resistance is 50m.

The dial is made from Meissen porcelain and hand-painted by the company’s artisans. The process requires several layers of colour, with each layer fired individually to achieve the intended result. With no indices, solid-gold 5N hours and minutes hands indicate the time, leaving the dial art mostly unobstructed.

The watch is powered by Glashütte Original’s manufacture Calibre 36-16 (36-01 base), an automatic movement offering a 100-hour power reserve. It runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour and uses a silicon balance spring for better resistance to magnetic fields and temperature changes. Traditional Saxon movement decoration includes the three-quarter plate finished with Glashütte stripes and the hand-engraved balance cock. The skeletonised rotor features the double-G logo and a solid-gold oscillating weight.

The Senator Meissen “Cherry Blossom” is worn on a dark blue Louisiana alligator leather strap closed with a red-gold pin buckle. It will be available from October 2026 through Glashütte Original boutiques and selected retailers. A price has not yet been confirmed but is expected to be around EUR 30,000.
