The New Two-Tone Edition of the Piaget Polo 79
Piaget's opulent vision of an integrated sports watch returns in a combination of white and yellow gold.
In 2024, for its 150th anniversary, Piaget took a daring step by reviving one of its most iconic creations. The Polo returned in its original form, clad entirely in opulent yellow gold, with its case, bracelet, and dial defined by horizontal gadroons that showcased Piaget’s longstanding mastery of distinctive watch shapes. The Piaget Polo 79 signalled the brand’s re-entry into the realm of elegant integrated sports watches, combining bold character with a singular aesthetic. In 2025, the concept was refined further with the introduction of a more understated white-gold version. Now, as something that could be called a natural evolution, we have the new Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone, mixing white and yellow gold.

When we talk about the Piaget Polo, specifically in today’s context, we should somehow focus on the original model, and not the modernised version that the brand introduced in 2016 – which admittedly, feels more Emperador than Polo. To set the context, we need to go back to 1979, possibly the golden era of the brand, when under the direction of Yves Piaget. The model took shape following a conversation between Piaget and his NYC distributor, Efraim Grinberg, as an answer to the growing demand for sportier, high-end watches with an integrated bracelet. Contrary to AP and PP, which came with sharp, quite robust proposals, Piaget went… Piaget. Gold, opulent, jet-set…
The original Piaget Polo’s design was characterised by trademark horizontal gadroons, a full gold attire, alternating brushed and polished surfaces, and a quartz movement. The Polo was a huge commercial success, a classic of the flamboyant early-1980s, yet with a distinctive design and aura. The Piaget Polo line was discontinued in the late 1980s before making a comeback in 2001 in a modernised version. In 2024, Piaget faithfully revived the Polo, re-launching it as a bold full-yellow gold watch powered by a micro-rotor movement. In 2025, the Polo 79 was presented in a more restrained white gold version. And this year, these two are mixed.
Historically, the 1979 Polo was mostly known in yellow gold, but it was also made available in white gold and in several two-tone versions combining white and yellow accents – either white gold with yellow gold accents, or yellow gold with white gold accents (maybe something for next year…) The Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone mixes precious metals, and not steel and gold like many bi-colour watches. Its case is primarily made of 18k white gold, in which are inserted some polished yellow gold gadroons, resulting in a fairly complex case construction. Compared to the previous yellow and white gold editions, nothing has changed on the technical side, with a 38mm diameter, 7.45mm thickness, sapphire crystals on both sides and a 50m water-resistance.
The architectural look of the case and bracelet, with its horizontal line accentuated by brushed surfaces going in the same direction, is even reinforced by the solid gold dial, blending almost seamlessly. Using the exact same design language and decoration, the dial alternates between brushed white gold and polished yellow gold lines. A dotted minute track on the periphery helps legibility, and the hands are here solid yellow gold, polished and dauphine-shaped. The result, arguably not the easiest to read, remains quite a strong design statement.
Under the transparent caseback is a well-known movement, the in-house calibre 1200P1. This automatic calibre is wound by a micro-rotor, participating in its slim profile of 2.35mm. Made of gold, the rotor is here left uncoated to match the style of the case. The movement runs at a 3Hz frequency and stores about 44h of power reserve.
Nicely integrated into the case, the bracelet of the Polo 79 Two-Tone looks exactly what you expect: brushed white gold links separated by polished yellow gold inter-links, for a seamless transition between case and bracelet. Closed by a yellow gold triple-fold clasp (still not micro-adjustable or interchangeable…), it is a modern construction with screws to assemble/disassemble the bracelet on the inner side.
Like the yellow and white gold versions, the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone is not limited in numbers but in production. It is priced at EUR 96,000. For more details, please visit piaget.com.
