The new Kallinich Claeys Einser Zentralsekunde Voyager Edition
Glashütte craft, Dresden astronomy, and a redesigned dial converge in the latest Einser Central Seconds.
Founded by former A. Lange & Söhne watchmakers Johannes Kallinich and Thibault Claeys, indie watchmaking atelier Kallinich Claeys has quickly become one of the most interesting names in contemporary Glashütte watchmaking. Their debut watch, the Einser Zentralsekunde, introduced a clear design approach and a thoughtfully constructed, in-house movement with central seconds and a linear power reserve displayed through the caseband. The new Einser Zentralsekunde Voyager edition builds on that platform: same architecture and obsessive finishing, now in a white gold case with a dial that looks outward to the stars and back to Saxony’s astronomical heritage.
For the first time, the Kallinich Claeys Einser Zentralsekunde appears in a precious metal; the earlier editions were crafted in steel. The Voyager is housed in a solid 18k white gold case measuring 41mm in diameter and 11mm in height, machined from a single block with no soldered lugs. The stepped lugs flow into recessed flanks, preserving the crisp, architectural profile of the original. On the right-hand side, the brand’s signature element remains: a sapphire window integrated into the caseband, framing the linear power reserve in profile. The crystal carries a metallised border and is invisibly bonded, maintaining the geometry of the mid-case while giving the movement a functional “cutaway” view. Front and back, sapphire crystals protect the dial and reveal the calibre; the watch is water-resistant to 30m.
The Voyager’s dial is an evolution of the house style, developed in collaboration with Lee Yuen-Rapati (@onehourwatch). A circular-grained outer ring carries newly introduced applied indices, each shaped to echo the three-dimensional form of the sculpted central hands, with straight-grained top surfaces and polished chamfers to catch the light.
The centre is where the cosmic theme emerges. A hand-engraved motif, inspired by Dresden’s rich astronomical history, creates a star-field effect, with polished engraved lines set against a frosted background, producing a constantly shifting play of reflections as the watch moves. The familiar eccentric upper circle with the screwed plaque bearing the logo reinforces continuity with the inaugural Einser, while the Voyager engraving work pushes the new watch into its own orbit.
The Kallinich Claeys Einser Zentralsekunde Voyager is powered by the in-house designed and developed calibre KC001.1, manually wound, beating at a calm 18,000 vibrations/hour with a 45-hour power reserve. The differential driving the linear power reserve is visible through the display back and via the lateral window, tying the case architecture directly to the mechanics.
The movement comprises 208 components and 30 jewels, here realised as transparent sapphires, and is constructed in German silver with the same obsessive finishing that defined the original series, with heat-blued screws, black-polished steel components, hand engraving and multiple graining techniques, wheels with individually chamfered teeth and hand-cut internal angles.
The Einser Zentralsekunde Voyager is worn on a dark brown ostrich leather strap, closed with a newly designed white gold buckle. Production is limited to 20 pieces, price is EUR 49,800 (excl. taxes). For more information, please visit www.kallinichclaeys.com.
