Born in 1931 to withstand the rigours of polo and defined by its unmistakable Art Deco geometry, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has evolved into one of the most enduring designs in watchmaking. Its swivelling steel case, conceived to protect the crystal from stray mallets, remains as ingenious today as it was nearly a century ago. Over the years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has expanded the concept with an impressive variety of models, to include artistic Métiers d’Art pieces and faithful 1931 reissues. Earlier this year, the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds on a pink gold Milanese bracelet showcased how enduring the design is, and how much range it offers for expression. New to the collection is this mid-size Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds, which pares that concept back to essentials, preserving the icon’s core while adding clever, contemporary refinements.

At first glance, the Classic Monoface Small Seconds remains faithful to the original proportions that made the Reverso such a versatile design. The polished stainless steel case, framed by the signature triple gadroons, measures 40.1mm by 24.4mm and 7.56mm thick, and maintains the elegant mid-size format introduced in the previous year – the Gold-on-Milanese model, like many other Reverso Classics, is 45.6mm x 27.4mm. This intermediate size is particularly elegant and versatile, being a dressy option for men or a watch adapted to modern women’s taste.

The case of the mid-size Reverso Classic Monoface is built with 50 components, and each element contributes to the fluid slide-and-flip mechanism that defines the model. In the hand, it feels mechanical, refined, a tactile reminder of the brand´s attention to engineering detail. The swivelling caseback is left blank, encouraging personalisation through engraving or lacquer, just as the earliest owners did.

In addition to the size, the dial introduces a new decorative element. Its centre features a finely executed guilloché pattern inspired by the edges of a stack of coins, an intricate relief that catches the light with every turn of the wrist. This texture extends to the small seconds display at six o’clock, framed by vertically brushed tracks for the hours and minutes. The textures add contrast, depth and clarity, while the applied Arabic numerals and faceted dauphine hands preserve the Reverso’s timeless charm. It’s a subtle but effective refresh, recognisably classic yet thoroughly contemporary in its execution.

The watch is powered by the calibre 822, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s hand-wound, tonneau-shaped movement explicitly designed for the Reverso’s rectangular format. Comprising 108 components and just 2.94mm thick, it operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve.

The new Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds reference Q3868520 is worn on a Casa Fagliano strap in supple black calfskin. It features an interchangeable system for effortless swaps and is closed with a polished steel pin buckle for a refined finish. Elegant, versatile, and faithful to its origins, the Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds joins the permanent collection and is priced at EUR 8,000, USD 8,000 or CHF 6,800. It is now available through Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques and authorised retailers worldwide. For more details, please visit jaeger-lecoultre.com.
