Three New Dial Colours for the Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase

Longines’ elegant and retro-styled moon-phase watch gets bolder dial colours.

| By Denis Peshkov | 3 min read |

In 1957, the Flagship collection was advertised as a perfect alliance of technical skill and classic design. More than six decades later, Longines keeps the spirit accurate. The Longines Flagship Heritage line is part of the brand’s classic collection. It falls into the Heritage Classic category and is presented as an homage to the innovative spirit while combining the original aesthetic of Longines historical models with modern-time watchmaking technologies. Last year, we welcomed an elegant Flagship Heritage 38.5mm to the catalogue, featuring date and moon phase indications. This year, Longines expands the offer by adding three new dial colours to the model, each conveying a distinct character to the underlying timepiece.

The Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase features a 38.5mm stainless steel case with a closed back, measuring 12.4mm in thickness. The lug-to-lug distance is measured at 46.3mm, so wrist comfort is undeniable, though losing a bit of thickness would make this watch an excellent service. The case design includes short chamfered lugs and a mix of satin-brushed and polished surfaces, and overall, it has a sportier feel than the elegant dial might suggest. With a 30-meter water resistance, the watch leans more towards being a dress piece, though its thickness makes it harder to classify strictly as such. Ultimately, these distinctions only matter if you’re looking to categorize the purpose of this modern and versatile watch with a lot of vintage flair.

The domed dials of the Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase sit low within the case, offering nicely executed details that play with light for an engaging visual experience. All three new dial colours – Havana beige, anthracite and dark green – feature a refined sunray brushed finish, which aligns with the earlier references. The anthracite dial stands out with polished hands, an applied winged hourglass logo, tapering stick indices, and the moon phase details rose-gold plated. The longer, thicker indices at 3, 9, and 12 add subtle contrast for easy time-reading. The green and beige dial variants mirror the design of the anthracite version but feature rhodium-plated accents. Across all models, the hour and minute hands have a strip of Super-LumiNova. At 6 o’clock, the recessed date subdial with a small hand also incorporates a classic moon phase indicator. While not adding much to the watch’s functionality, it is essential to its appeal.

As is tradition since the Flagship collection’s debut in 1957, the screw-down caseback of the Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase features a gold medallion adorned with blue enamel and an embossed image of a full-sail caravel and the EFCo (Ernest Francillon & Compagnie) Longines logo. The watch is powered by the exclusive Longines automatic calibre L899.5 (based on ETA A31.L91), operating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations/hour. The movement includes a silicon balance spring, enhancing its resistance to magnetism, and offers a 72-hour power reserve while ensuring reliable performance.

The new 38.5mm Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase variants are paired with coordinating leather straps: a black leather strap for the green dial, anthracite leather for the anthracite dial, and brown leather for the Havana beige dial. All straps are secured with a steel pin buckle. The price is EUR 3,400, and all new references are available for purchase through authorized retailers or directly on the brand’s website.
