Independent watchmaking loves a good origin story, and Vanguart has got one. Founded in 2017 by APRP alumni Axel Leuenberger and Jérémy Freléchox, designer Thierry Fischer and F1-insider Mehmet Korutürk, the brand debuted with the Black Hole Tourbillon in 2021. That first watch featured a levitating flying tourbillon, concentric automaton discs that warp time around a central void, and a joystick-style time setting system. Since then, Vanguart has doubled down on this language with pieces like the Orb, refining a very specific aesthetic: sculptural cases, technical dials, and movements that borrow architecture from grande sonnerie and chiming watches to drive their semi-instantaneous displays. Dubai Watch Week 2025 has become the place for the next chapter, as the Black Hole collection expands with two new references: the Black Hole Arabic Numerals in titanium and the Black Hole Rose Gold, the latter being the one we’ll look at in detail here.

The new Black Hole Rose Gold uses the evolved Black Hole case that fuses case and movement into a single flowing volume. It measures 45mm on the diagonal, but thanks to a lugless design and integrated strap, it wears closer to a 42mm watch on the wrist. Thickness is 15.75mm, which sounds substantial but is very much in line with the kind of high-concept tourbillon it houses. On the Black Hole Arabic Numerals, the case is crafted in grade 5 titanium and weighs just 80 grams. The exoskeleton is microblasted with polished bevels, and the “fuselage”, the central body of the watch, is also microblasted to keep the look stealthy and technical. The joystick crowns and flowing openings accentuate the idea of a hollowed-out, gravitational shell around the movement.

The Black Hole Rose Gold edition takes the same form and renders it in solid rose gold, tipping the scale at 173 grams. Here, the exoskeleton is still microblasted with polished bevels, but the central fuselage is fully polished. Both models retain the fully integrated architecture that made the original so striking. On both watches, the dial side is essentially an extension of the movement: a titanium grade 5 anthracite PVD construction with concentric, concave discs radiating out from the levitating tourbillon. These three tiers form the automaton display: the discs rotate to create a linear, semi-instantaneous time indication, with forward and reverse motion controlled by the joystick system.

The Black Hole Arabic Numerals uses Eastern Arabic symbols, while the Black Hole Rose Gold edition adheres to the Western-style markers on its display. The anthracite PVD titanium dial is microblasted and satin-finished, with hand-painted indications, but the emphasis shifts from graphic information to pure form, light and depth.

The Vanguart Black Hole Rose Gold shares the same flying tourbillon calibre that defined the original Black Hole. Built from 775 components, it combines a levitating flying tourbillon placed high and central in the architecture and a concentric three-tier automaton dial with linear time display. A dual-barrel, grande sonnerie-inspired design separates timekeeping from display, and a high-precision joystick with forward and reverse indication is used for time-setting. A vertical power reserve gauge allows a quick visual read of the 42-hour “useful” reserve.

Mainplate and bridges are made from titanium grade 5, microblasted with satin-finished and block-polished surfaces and extensive hand-bevelled edges. The Black Hole Rose Gold version adds gold PVD to the titanium movement components, bringing the warmth of the case into the calibre.

The Black Hole Arabic Numerals is worn on a sand-coloured rubber strap; the Rose Gold model comes on an anthracite rubber strap. Each reference is limited to 8 pieces. The Black Hole Arabic Numerals edition is priced at CHF 355,000, while the Black Hole Rose Gold is CHF 410,000. For more information, please visit vanguart.com.
