The Union Glashütte Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase now in Blue Editions
This classic from Union retains the elegant DNA of earlier models while adding a touch of modernity.

The Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase has long been one of Union Glashütte’s signature watches, combining Saxon craftsmanship with the appeal of a complete calendar and lunar display. In 2023, the Belisar Chronograph line received a welcome refresh with sleeker proportions, more angular bezels, and a renewed emphasis on legibility. This year, the usually classic Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase gets a touch of casualness and modernity by welcoming two steel and steel-and-gold versions with handsome midnight blue dials.
Union Glashütte brought the Chronograph Moon Phase into line with this updated aesthetic, and now introduces two new editions. Available in stainless steel or in steel with 18k rose-gold accents, the latest references refine the formula with a midnight-blue sunburst dial, applied indices, and warm metal accents that highlight the complication’s classical character.
At 42mm in diameter and 14.8mm thick, with a lug-to-lug span of 50.6mm, the new case offers improved wearability while retaining Belisar’s hallmark design codes: screwed-on case flanks, a robust 100m water resistance, and sapphire crystals front and back. The flanks and bezel are either crafted from polished stainless steel or solid 18k rose gold for a two-tone effect. Rectangular pushers with softened corners and the classic fluted crown complete the profile.
The sunburst midnight blue dial is enhanced by applied rose-gold coloured indices and a harmoniously arranged layout. The sub-dial at 12 o’clock combines a 30-minute chronograph counter with day and month windows, while 9 o’clock hosts running seconds and a 24-hour display. The 6 o’clock register integrates a 12-hour chronograph counter and a moon phase with a golden moon against a starry sky. A central hand indicates the date around the chapter ring.
Powering the new Union Glashütte Belisar Chronograph Moon Phase is the calibre UNG-25.S1, an upgraded automatic movement based on the Valjoux 7751 and decorated, assembled, and regulated in Glashütte. It features a silicon balance spring, an indexless regulation system, and an extended 65-hour power reserve. Decoration includes Glashütte stripes on the rotor, perlage on the mainplate, and blued screws.
Both versions come on a handmade blue leather strap with crocodile-effect finish. Prices are EUR 7,500 for the two-tone model and EUR 3,600 for the stainless steel version. For more information, visit union-glashuette.com.

Why isn’t this available in the United States? Here is a watch using slightly modified off the shelf parts in a way that is elegant, with an appropriate price.
