Ochs & Junior Settimana Classic Black

Minimalistic watchmaking is an art in itself, and one mastered by Ochs & Junior. To leave out all frills in a watch, and boil it down to the absolutely essential elements only, takes a skilled eye and a sharp mind. Needless to say, Ludwich Oechslin, the genius behind Ochs & Junior knows his way around movements and minimalistic displays. After all, he is the one that came up with a weekday indication needing only four components. Next in line coming from the minimalistic indies, is the Ochs & Junior Settimana Classic Black.

The Settimana is one of Ochs & Junior’s very original and minimalistic watches, available in two sizes. You can have either a 36mm or 40mm diameter titanium case, and in true O&J fashion both come with visible machining and milling traces. Both come in at a modest 10.8mm in height, wears extremely comfortable due to the short lugs, and will fit just about anyone. A knurled screw-down crown is used to set the hands. So far, it all falls in line with the Settimana Next and Settimana Raw.

The beauty of the Settimana lies in its ingeniously simple display for the day of the week. The module that sits on top of the movement consists of only 4 components, the backside of the dial included. This displays the day of the week through seven holes in the dial, with an elongated one marking the transition from Sunday to Monday, starting the week all over again. In this new iteration of the Settimana, the dial is a classic deep black, with bright white numerals or indices. Essentially, that gives you 4 different watches to choose from (two sizes, two dial layouts).

The watch is driven by a Sellita SW 200-1, with the aforementioned in-house developed module on top. This converts the date indication normally found in the SW 200-1, into a weekday indication. It has 26 jewels, runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and gives you a running time of 38 hours. The movement itself is hidden from view due to the two-part construction of the case, with solid titanium back.

The Ochs & Junior Settimana Classic Black is part of the permanent collection, and not customisable. It is worn on a black textile strap with a titanium pin buckle that tucks in one end underneath the other. It retails for CHF 2,600.
