The Hanhart Red X Grey & Blue Flyback Chronograph and Dashboard Stopwatch Twin-Set

Rally enthusiasts and vintage car lovers are in for a treat with Hanhart’s flyback chronograph and stopwatch combo.

Hanhart is famous for its Flieger chronographs, historic pilot watches with a red pusher to prevent pilots from accidentally zeroing the stop time. However, Hanhart is also renowned for its stopwatches. In fact, Johann Hanhart started life in Switzerland in 1882 as a manufacturer of stopwatches before relocating to Germany in 1902, where his son, Willy Hanhart, started producing affordable stopwatches in 1924. Recognised as the leading German manufacturer of mechanical and electronic stopwatches, including coveted dashboard stopwatches, Hanhart has an interesting pre-Christmas proposition. Described as a twin set – and no, it’s not a pullover and cardigan combo – Hanhart offers an enticing package with a flyback chronograph and stopwatch complete with a dashboard plate and table stand, a perfect present for rally and vintage car enthusiasts.

flyback chronograph

Slightly more modern in appearance than the brand’s classic vintage-style Flieger chronographs, the flyback chronograph is nevertheless a Hanhart product to the core. Featuring the brand’s signature fluted rotating bezel, the pump pusher at 4 o’clock to reset/restart the chronograph is painted bright red, matching the red marker on the bezel to indicate zero. Measuring 39mm across with a height of 14.5mm, the stainless steel case is polished and brushed; it has an anti-reflective sapphire glass over the dial, a screw-down caseback with sapphire inlay and is water-resistant to 100 metres.

Available with a grey or blue dial with an attractive sunburst finish and the brand’s historical logo, the bicompax counters are slightly recessed with white tracks and numerals and bright red hands. The sloping peripheral track on the dial is also white with red markings at 5-minute intervals. Large luminescent Arabic numerals at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 are accompanied by four red rectangular hour markers at 1, 5, 7 and 11 with a touch of lume at their tips. The hour and minute hands are not pencil-style but slim, faceted and also luminescent, and the central chronograph seconds hand is, as you would expect, bright red.

The reverse side of the case reveals the manual-winding Sellita AMT5100 M integrated chronograph calibre with a column wheel and an extended power reserve of 58 hours. Both models come with calfskin leather straps to match the dial colour with red cross stitching and a pin buckle.

flyback Stopwatch

As part of the package, Hanhart includes the stopwatch with flyback functionality and a 30-minute counter at noon. Presented in a 55mm polished steel case with a flat bezel, the blue or grey dial picks up on design cues found on the chronograph. It has a white peripheral seconds track and large Arabic numerals accompanied by red rectangular markers with white tips and a central white hand with a red tip. Fitted with an in-house movement – calibre 122 – with a Swiss lever escapement and column wheel, the stopwatch can capture times of 1/5th of a second. The stopwatch comes with a specially designed 8cm x 6cm polished steel dashboard plate and a practical table stand also made of steel with a brown leather cover to protect the stopwatch.

Availability & Price

The new Hanhart package comprising the flyback chronograph and stopwatch is limited to 140 sets in each colour and can be ordered from distributors or online at hanhart.com for EUR 2,790 (incl. 19% tax).
