Nomos Metro neomatik 41 Update

German independent watchmaking company NOMOS have a certain knack for creating clean, legible, relatively accessible watches. And in all honesty, more often than not the models incorporate funky elements, providing a playful twist to the otherwise sober Bauhaus inspired designs. Moving up from outsourced movements gradually, more and more NOMOS collections feature in-house manufactured Calibres, which connect the 4 watches we thought are NOMOS’ best novelties of 2021.

NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update

The clue for the NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update is quite literally in its name, as it is an updated version of the already existing Metro Neomatik, also incorporating the unusual yet fun date display we first saw on the Tangente. Being a more youthful take on the brand’s clean design philosophy, it combines a 40.5mm polished steel case, wire lugs and a very thin bezel with a clean, silvery-white dial. Little details here and there, like the grained surface and the concentric pattern for the small seconds liven it up. The biggest surprise though is the display for the date. Two bright neon orange markers “embrace” the date from underneath through a series of cutouts on the outer edge. The in-house DUW 6101 automatic calibre features the NOMOS Swing-System with blued balance spring and a quick-set (two ways) for the date function.

NOMOS Autobahn Director’s Cut collection

NOMOS is no stranger to upping the funk in its watches, and the Autobahn Director’s cut is clear evidence of that. The unusual dial layout, inspired by dashboard instruments is the most striking element for sure. Second to that, is the elongated date window in the bottom, which shows the date for yesterday, today and tomorrow at once. The bowl-shaped dial is available in white, black or blue with a contrasting orange, grey or yellow segmented stripe. Slender hands indicate the hours, minutes and small seconds, the latter displayed in a recessed subdial. The final surprise is the bracelet, with a large, perforated first link. Once again we see NOMOS’ DUW 6101 Calibre, providing 42 hours of power reserve and running at a frequency of 21,600vph.

NOMOS Club Sport Neomatik 42 Date

The NOMOS Club Sport Neomatik 42 Date is the brand’s most sports-orientated watch, and this year it was presented in a gorgeous new blue dial and a new style bracelet to boot. The Club Sport Neomatik 42mm Date has a rather large, for NOMOS’ standards at least, stainless steel case, coming in at 42mm. The screw-down crown has a clever red “unscrewed” indicator ring, and its water resistance is rated at 300m. The star of the show is the deep-blue dial with a sunray brushing. White numerals and indices, paired with white sword-shaped hands make for a very legible watch. Seen through the back is, yet again, the DUW 6101 automatic movement, which is manufactured in-house. The decoration is done quite nicely, with Glashütte Ribbing, perlage and blued screws.

Ace x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition

NOMOS is not shy of collaborating with various partners, one of which is done with ACE Jewelers, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The year 2021 marked the fifth straight year we saw NOMOS working together with ACE, and launching the ACE x NOMOS Club 36 Blue Limited Edition. Based on one of the smallest watches NOMOS offers, the 36mm Club, it comes in a fully polished steel case with elongated lugs. The dial is done in a deep blue with a fine-grained texture, and bright orange numerals and indices (we are Dutch after all). With a choice of either a closed or see-through caseback, you’re given the chance to reveal the NOMOS Alpha calibre inside the Club 36. This hand-wound movement is based on the architecture of the Peseux 7001. It was presented as a limited edition of 50 pieces with a closed caseback (sold out) and 100 pieces with a sapphire crystal caseback (still available). It’s worn on a black Horween Shell Cordovan leather strap and comes with additional blue and orange NATO straps.
