In 2014, Oris unveiled the ProPilot Altimeter, a unique wristwatch that combined an automatic Swiss-made calibre with a mechanical altimeter. Following an update in 2023, that singular idea is revisited this year in collaboration with Bamford Watch Department, bringing fresh design and high-tech case construction to the ProPilot Altimeter. The result is the Oris x Bamford ProPilot Altimeter Mission Control, an oversized but lightweight tool watch that packs a visual punch and genuine utility.

The Oris x Bamford ProPilot Altimeter Mission Control case measures 47mm in diameter and 16.7mm in height, a size dictated by the demands of housing both a self-winding calibre and the mechanical altimeter module. Instead of steel or titanium, the Mission Control uses a carbon-fibre composite developed with 9T Labs of Zurich. Produced by additive manufacturing and moulding, the material is as light as plastic yet stronger than many metals. Its layered build creates a distinctive visual pattern unique to each watch. Complementing it are a grey PVD-coated titanium bezel, caseback and crowns, keeping weight low while ensuring durability. Water resistance is rated at 100m when both crowns are secured.

The dial design reflects Bamford’s vision, with a matte black base punctuated by bright yellow, lime and red indicators. Around the periphery, an altitude scale is marked in feet, extending up to 19,700 ft. The altimeter reading is shown by a yellow indicator, which tracks altitude, while a red marker shows absolute air pressure.

The altimeter is operated via the dedicated crown at 4 o’clock. Unscrewing to position 1 activates the system, pulling to position 2 allows calibration against a known reference pressure, such as airport control data. Once set, changes in altitude are displayed in real time. When not in use, the crown is screwed back down, sealing the case to restore full water-resistance.

Timekeeping is handled by the automatic Oris Calibre 793, based on the Sellita SW300. It delivers central hours, minutes, sweep seconds, a quick-set date at 3 o’clock and hacking seconds, with a power reserve of 56 hours at 28,800 vibrations/hour. The movement runs independently of the altimeter module, separated by a clever twin-dial construction first patented by Oris in 2014, ensuring that the rotor does not interfere with pressure readings.

The watch is worn on a robust black textile strap lined with brightly coloured leather in yellow and green, a nod to Bamford’s 1980s sneaker inspiration. It is closed with a grey PVD-coated titanium folding clasp with a fine adjustment system.

Limited to 250 numbered pieces, the Oris x Bamford ProPilot Altimeter Mission Control will be available from September 2025, retailing at CHF 6,700. For more details, please visit oris.ch.
