The Cool New NOMOS Club Automatic Limited Editions

Sporty, young, surprisingly robust, and attractively priced!

Fine watchmaking has been part of the history of Glashütte, a small village from Germany, for 175 years now. And while NOMOS is one of the youngest brands to operate in this charming town, they are fully part of the watchmaking tradition and, last year, they celebrated this by releasing several limited editions, such as these Ludwig and Lambda watches. To kick off 2021, the brand releases its third edition in this series… And this time, it’ll be sportier, younger, more colourful but still NOMOS all the way. Meet the new Club Automatic Limited Editions.

The NOMOS Club is one of the most enduring collections from the brand, which has been introduced back in 2007. These watches were a great addition to the classic (with a twist) models that were the Tangente or the Ludwig, bringing the touch of colour and youthfulness that we know today as one of the hallmarks of NOMOS. Sportier, younger but still in line with the watchmaking standards of the brand, it will be joined later by an even more original version, the Club Campus and its California dial.

Today, as the brand continues its celebration of the 175th anniversary of watchmaking in the town of Glashütte – the epicentre of watchmaking in Germany, where NOMOS and multiple other high-end brands operate – it releases new editions of the Club with nicely coloured dials, great proportions, automatic in-house movement and, to make it even more attractive, at a fair price.

These three Club Automatic Limited Editions are housed in a surprisingly robust case, specifically considering the thinness of the watch. Measuring 40mm across (other Club models are 37mm or 41.5mm) and only 9.7mm in height, the Club Automatic is water-resistant to 200m, making it a potential dive watch. This combination of thinness and robustness has been made possible thanks to a case in only 2 parts, where the bezel and the central case are a single part. The caseback, with a sapphire crystal revealing the movement, is screwed just like the crown. NOMOS proves that you don’t need a thick watch to go underwater… or to enjoy a drink at the pool, or even to go to the office the next day.

The main specificity of these NOMOS Club Automatic Limited Editions are the dials. Each limited to 175 pieces, the brand has opted for two classic colours – Onyx Black and Navy Blue – as well as a bolder Olive Green dial version. All three dials are galvanized and show a matte, slightly grained texture on which the markers and Arabic numerals are greatly contrasted. The hands, as well as the indexes, are filled with Super-LumiNova, providing powerful night-time legibility. A classic for the brand, time is indicated by central hours and minutes, with a small seconds positioned at 6 o’clock.

Complementing the sporty style of these colourful and contemporary editions, these Club Automatic can be ordered either on a sport steel bracelet with flat links and brushed finish or on textile strap. The latter will be light grey for the Onyx and Olive editions, and dark blue for the Navy model. Whether you’ll opt for one or the other, these will make the Club Automatic capable of sports activities.

Inside the robust case sits the calibre DUW 5001, the first automatic movement developed by the brand back in 2005. Manufactured internally, it even features a proprietary regulating organ – the Swing System – which allows the brand to adjust the watches according to chronometer standards. Equipped with a central rotor, this movement runs at a 3Hz frequency and stores 43 hours of power reserve. The decoration is very pleasant, with thin stripes, perlage and thermally blued screws.
