The Black & White Panda Brellum Pandial LE.2DD Chronometer (Live Pics & Price)

A racy black-and-white panda suit for Brellum’s chronograph with day/date and a chronometer-certified Valjoux movement.

Sébastian Muller, the fourth generation of a Swiss watchmaking family from the Jura, founded Brellum in 2016, a small independent brand with a production of around 299 pieces a year and a focus on affordable chronometer-certified chronographs. The Pandial, Brellum’s two-tone vintage-inspired chronograph fitted with a Valjoux 7750, returns in a classic black-and-white panda suit after its debut in a blue-and-white model earlier this year. A limited and numbered edition of 33 pieces, the Pandial LE.2DD Chronometer is delivered with a stainless steel bracelet and textile strap and retails for just over EUR 3,000.

Racing-style chronograph

The Pandial DD (day/date) LE.2 is packed with functions and features a racy external tachymeter scale, similar in style to the tachymeter that Omega released on board the Speedmaster in 1957. Other racing chronograph details include the piston-style pushers flanking the large knurled crown. The robust 100m water-resistant stainless steel case measures 43mm with a height of 15.90mm (including the box sapphire crystal over the dial and caseback), and the tachymeter is black with silver markings. Presented on a stainless steel bracelet, which can be switched for a Nebur Tec strap with the tools provided, the bracelet and case feature alternating brushed surfaces in line with its sporty appeal with polished accents, like the vertical links of the bracelet and the pushers.

Following in the footsteps of the Brellum Duobox Pandial, the black-and-white panda dial evokes the look of vintage chronographs and the colour scheme assists legibility no end. Arranged vertically in the centre, the black chronograph counters for 30 minutes and 12 hours have a snailed background and silver hands and numerals. The third counter, corresponding to the small seconds, sits at 9 o’clock and features a black ring, a white snailed interior, a black hand and the numeral 60.

A black sloping flange with silver minute/second markings surrounds the white opaline dial with its applied rectangular diamond-cut hour indices with luminous tips. In addition to the lumed hour and minute hands, there are four double-triangles at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock with lume to highlight the functions. As we mentioned, there is a lot of information on this dial, and opposite the small seconds counter is a large rectangular day and date window with equally large black letters and numerals against a white background. Moreover, the rectangular window has inscriptions on top and bottom with the brand name ‘Brellum’ and ‘Chronometer 100m/333 ft’ printed in black.

Calibre BR 750-2

The sapphire crystal caseback is also domed and reveals the calibre BF 750-2, based on classic Valjoux 7750 architecture. A gold-coated openworked rotor reveals some of the finishings, including perlage on the mainplate, Geneva stripes on the bridges and blued screws. The limited edition number is engraved on the rotor 01/33. An officially certified chronometer by COSC, this automatic cam-lever chronograph beats at 28,800vph and delivers a power reserve of 46 hours.
