Most high-end perpetual calendars are fragile creatures composed of hundreds of components, delicate levers and springs. The problem with many is that they are susceptible to damage, especially if the crown or pushers are manipulated during the watch’s date-change cycle. Master watchmaker Ludwig Oechslin tackled the problem with the Perpetual Ludwig, developed for Ulysse Nardin in 1996, which replaced the delicate levers and springs with a system of rotating gears. With just nine additional and three modified components, his radically simplified perpetual calendar can be adjusted forwards and backwards via the crown at any time of day, eliminating the danger zone that plagues most QPs. In 2016, Oechslin’s perpetual calendar debuted in his Ochs und Junior brand, paired with the stark, brutalist aesthetic that characterises the marque.  Finalising the brand’s 20th anniversary celebrations and anticipating the upcoming festive season, Ochs und Junior presents the Perpetual Calendar Holiday Edition 2026.

Like all previous perpetual calendars at Ochs und Junior, the calendar information is displayed using the brand’s signature minimalism composed of dots and holes. However, as a special Holiday Edition 2026, like the 2025 Day/Night and the Settimana Christmas Edition 2024, the dial has been given a festive twist. In this case, the dark anthracite dial, decorated with sandblasted and circular-grained finishes, is embellished with refined white gold accents on the hour and minute hands, the 10-minute markers and the dots indicating the date, month, leap year, power reserve and running indicator.

The compression of information into such a minimalist and graphic format never ceases to amaze. Instead of sub-dials and windows, the finely sandblasted anthracite dial features a spiral of 30 + 1 cutout holes on the periphery to indicate the date with a single white gold dot moving behind the holes. The months and leap year are indicated in a single disc in the circular grained centre of the dial with four perforations.

The entire disc rotates clockwise over a year, and the outermost hole indicates the current month (if it is pointing at 10 o’clock, it’s October; at 5 o’clock, it’s May). If that cutout hole appears with a white gold dot, it is a leap year; if it is dark, it is not. The two small circles poised above and below the central disc represent the power reserve indicator at noon and running seconds at 6 o’clock. The dot located between 1 and 2 o’clock shows when it is safe to adjust the date.

Presented in a signature Ochs und Junior 42mm titanium case with straight lugs and 100m water resistance, the watch is powered by the Ulysse Nardin UN-118 automatic calibre with a 60-hour power reserve. It is paired with a black Ecopell calfskin strap.

The watch is priced at CHF 15,000 (excl. tax) or CHF 16,215 (incl. Swiss VAT). You can order it online or by email until 6 January 2027. Orders received with a 50% deposit by 15 November 2026 will be delivered before Christmas.
