Launching on Kickstarter, the new Northern Watches NW1 Bronze Age & NW2 Northerner
A Nordic-leaning debut built around a genuine 24-hour dial and Swiss mechanics that make it practical, not gimmicky.

Northern Watches, launched by the Norwegian-born and Swiss-based watchmaker Stian Lofstad, arrives with a clear message: show the whole day at a glance, keep the design clean, and build it in Switzerland with proven movement. The debut range splits into two references, the bronze-cased NW1 Bronze Age and the steel NW2 Northerner, but the concept is singular: a true 24-hour display you can wear every day. It’s a thoughtful approach: Northern’s minimalist, Northern-European design language; natural stone dials so no two pieces are alike; and top-grade Sellita GMT calibres visible under domed sapphire.
On the wrist, both inaugural models from Northern Watches hit the sweet spot with a 38mm case and long, sculptural lugs that add presence without bulk. The lugs are individually machined, finished, and fixed with screws, an uncommon detail that gives the cases an engineered feel. The NW1 uses CuSn8 bronze with a stainless back to help prevent patina from being in contact with the skin; the NW2 sticks to 316L throughout. Both are topped with a double-domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating; the caseback features a domed sapphire window. Water-resistance is rated to 50m.
Speaking of the dials, Northern Watches leans into texture with natural stone, then pares back the printing so the 24-hour layout stays readable. Noon is at the top, midnight at the bottom; mornings climb, evenings fall. A clean minute track, restrained typography, and a date at 6 o’clock complete the picture. If you haven’t lived with a 24-hour dial, the learning curve is short; the layout becomes intuitive within a day. The date is at 6, only the Northern 6 (9 as per regular layout).
The watches are powered by the Sellita SW330-2 in top-grade, decorated and on show. Northern uses the GMT architecture (an hour hand mounted on the GMT wheel) to let you set the hour independently without affecting the timekeeping or the date. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour, offers a quick-set date, and has a 56-hour power reserve.
Straps are quick-release Alcantara leather with a taper. Each watch ships in a wooden presentation box. Pricing and tiers are set via the live Kickstarter campaign. The Northerner is offered for CHF 1,211, the Bronze Age will cost you CHF 1,398, but only if you hurry.
