Tutima, a German brand tracing its origins back to the 1920s, is renowned for its rich heritage in aviation and sports timepieces, a legacy proudly carried forward by the Grand Flieger and M2 collections. Yet, the brand’s repertoire extends beyond, and today, we talk about Tutima’s Saxon One collection, which channels Tutima’s expertise into a dynamic sports watch series, epitomizing the essence of the “Saxon sporting spirit”. The latest entrant to this lineup is the “Zentrale Stoppminute” chronograph, boasting vibrant yellow hues that demand attention. See if you’re captivated by the looks of the new Tutima Saxon One ZSM Limited Edition.

Measuring 43mm in diameter and 15.7mm in thickness, the substantial size of the Saxon One ZSM commands attention on the wrist. However, its original case design – a rounded cushion shape with facets – has been created with ergonomics in mind and wears with comfort – as you can see on the 16.5cm wrist of our managing editor Brice, it doesn’t look overly large. The long chronograph pushers are discreetly integrated into the side of the case, while small protective guards shield the crown. In keeping with the collection’s ethos, the Saxon One ZSM features a countdown rotating bezel with a signature red marker at 12 o’clock.

This edition is adorned with a scaled black insert with a luminous dot next to the red marker, a departure from the polished bezels of the series. The domed sapphire crystal, treated on both sides with an anti-reflective coating, ensures optimal readability. The stainless steel case boasts a matte brushed finish with subtle polished accents, enhancing its sporty aesthetic.

The vibrant “racing yellow” dial of the Saxon One ZSM exudes energy, accentuated by black and white detailing with each element, contributing to the watch’s cohesive design. On the inclined inner flange, the minutes track, printed in black, showcases the initial 15 minutes highlighted in bright yellow, with each minute distinctly marked in black. The subsequent intervals, printed in yellow, are denoted in 5-minute increments. Adjacent to this is the seconds track in black, with the 12 applied hour indices overlapping the track and the main dial.

Following the series’ tradition, the Saxon One ZSM chronograph maintains a familiar layout. Positioned at 6 o’clock is the 12-hour counter, while the central hands track the chronograph seconds and minutes (an original feature allowing for enhanced legibility). The running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock is subtly present, while the date window at 3 o’clock features a clear white indication against the black background. The 24-hour sub-dial at 12 o’clock doubles as a convenient day/night indicator.

Super-LumiNova treatment enhances legibility in low-light conditions. It is applied to the hour indices, stick-type hour and minute hands, and all chronograph hands. This luminous coating extends to the chronograph hours counter, and there’s a lume dot at 12 o’clock on the minutes track for additional clarity of night-time indications.

Throughout Tutima’s Saxon One chronograph series, the movement driving these timepieces is the calibre 521 – also used in the M2 Pioneer Chronograph. Derived from the robust Valjoux 7750, it undergoes modification by Tutima to include a central chronograph minutes totalizer alongside the centre chronograph seconds, a proprietary enhancement executed in-house in Glashütte. This automatic movement operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour, has a 48-hour power reserve and features decent decoration – in line with the watch’s style and price – visible through the sapphire caseback. Notably, this doesn’t compromise the watch’s functionality, as it maintains a water resistance of 200 meters.

The new Tutima Saxon One ZSM edition in racing yellow is worn on a yellow rubber strap closed with a pin buckle. The watch is a limited edition of 100 pieces, and the price is EUR 4,800, which feels reasonable considering the attention to detail and functionality. For more, visit tutima.com.
