In 2019, Girard-Perregaux unveiled a remarkably intriguing series of new timepieces, based on their renowned Laureato collection. Among the standout introductions was the Laureato Absolute Chronograph, characterized by a black-coated titanium case transitioning into a gradient black-to-blue dial. This combination exuded both legibility and allure. After this release, Girard-Perregaux continued to captivate enthusiasts with further iterations, such as the Laureato Absolute Crystal Rock, a testament to the brand’s curiosity in exploring avant-garde, high-performance materials. The new Laureato Absolute 8Tech emerges as a natural progression in this innovation trajectory. Crafted from a composite of carbon and titanium, its presentation brings no surprise, yet it is destined to be met with enthusiasm, and we are happy to present this new timepiece to you.

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph 8Tech graces the wrist with a black-to-dark-grey case, evocative of the undulating patterns of Damascus steel. Sized at 44mm in diameter and 15.15mm in thickness, the watch commands attention without compromising comfort – a feat attributed to its lightweight material. The case’s inherent strength and rigidity stem from its composition of thin layers of carbon fibres intertwined with titanium powder, meticulously arranged in octagonal contours. Through heat and pressure, these shapes materialize into a unified structure, subsequently undergoing precision milling and skilled hand-finishing.

The dial maintains a harmonious display, hosting easily readable sub-dials dedicated to the chronograph functionality. Predominantly black, the dial incorporates nuances of grey and white, employing a “sandwich” construction technique. This intricate approach sees a sandblasted upper layer adorned with a gradient grey hue while the lower layer, crafted from titanium, peeks through meticulously cut-out sections. These distinctive arrow-tipped apertures function as hour markers and are accompanied by adjacent rectangular markings, their surfaces illuminated by a luminous white hue. The recessed sub-dials align in the well-recognized 3-6-9 formation, with a discreet date aperture discreetly positioned at 4:30. Augmenting readability in dim conditions, the hour and minute hands adopt a baton style, coated in grey PVD treatment and coated with luminescent material to emit a vivid white glow when darkness falls.

At the heart of the Laureato Absolute 8Tech resides the self-winding Calibre GP03300-1058, akin to its chronograph counterparts within the Laureato Absolute series. The movement, comprised of 419 components, demonstrates the hallmarks of haute horlogerie finish. Adorned with Côtes de Genève, chamfering, and straight graining, the movement’s allure is revealed through a smoked sapphire crystal caseback.

The Laureato 8Tech is worn on a black rubber strap, replete with a fabric-like texture and accented by grey stitching. Remaining faithful to Laureato tradition, this strap harmoniously integrates into the case, emphasizing wearer comfort. The strap is closed with a folding titanium buckle, treated with a black PVD finish, with a micro-adjustment system, allowing the fortunate wearer to achieve an impeccable fit.
