De Rijke & Co. Amalfi Series 2, Drivers’ Watches with Car-Themed Enamel Dials
Ceramic case, miniature enamel artistry, and a functional concept expand the distinctive identity of De Rijke & Co.
Suppose you know the Dutch indie watchmaking scene, then De Rijke & Co. is the name you must be familiar with. Founded by Laurens De Rijke, the brand began almost by accident during a vintage Vespa trip, when the idea for a watch specifically designed for driving emerged. De Rijke’s concept of a driver’s watch became the Amalfi, a mechanical watch series with its unusual rotatable case, allowing the dial to be turned 90 degrees so it remains upright while the wearer’s hands are on the steering wheel.
After the Amalfi Enamel Series 1 Land, Sea and Air, De Rijke now introduces the Amalfi Series 2, once again developed with British automotive illustrator Guy Allen. This second edition focuses entirely on classic car culture, with the three iconic vehicles inspiring enamel miniature artworks.
For Series 2, the Amalfi two-piece rotating case receives a significant upgrade: instead of stainless steel, De Rijke offers a fully ceramic case. The watch retains the dimensions of the Amalfi collection, measuring 38.2mm in diameter and 11mm in height, with a sapphire crystal and 50m of water resistance.
As with the previous series, the dials are produced using traditional champlevé enamel techniques. Each dial begins with a solid 925 silver base, which is engraved to create recessed sections. For this new generation, however, De Rijke adds three-dimensional engraving. The lower portion of the dial is sculpted with varying depths before being covered with transparent grand feu enamel, creating a remarkable sense of volume and light play.
A specialist craftsman in the UK performs the enamel work, and each watch also features a dedicated, engraved caseback reflecting the dial’s theme. Time is indicated by the skeletonised hands, with the minutes track and applied indices placed on the wide inner flange in black. The Amazon edition celebrates the Land Rover Defender, rendered in vivid enamel against a lush green backdrop evocative of adventurous road trips. The Sahara model pays tribute to the rally heritage of the Porsche 911, its rich tones referencing desert racing and off-road exploration. Finally, the Turini edition is inspired by the Lancia Stratos.
The new series is powered by the Sellita SW300, an automatic movement (alternative to the ETA 2892) chosen for its slim profile and dependable performance. The calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. In this execution, De Rijke uses a high-grade version of the movement, with a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting.
The Amalfi Series 2 watches are worn on leather straps with quick-release spring bars. Each design is produced in a numbered edition of 50 pieces; the watches retail for EUR 4,595 (excl. VAT) and are released immediately. For more details, please consult derijkeandco.com.
