The Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 Steel “Colours of the Moon” Collection
Three new editions bring coloured mother-of-pearl to one of Arnold & Son's emblematic watches.
Few modern moon-phase watches place the lunar display at the centre of the experience quite like Arnold & Son’s Perpetual Moon. Since its introduction over 10 years ago, the collection has served as a showcase for the brand’s fascination with astronomy, with numerous variants released. Now, Arnold & Son revisits this signature model with three new limited editions titled “Colours of the Moon”.
The new Perpetual Moon 41.5 Steel “Colours of the Moon” collection consists of three references inspired by rare lunar phenomena. The Blue Moon recalls the uncommon occurrence of a second full moon within a season and the cool blue tones sometimes created by atmospheric particles. The Golden Moon takes its cue from the warm amber glow of the moon near the horizon, while the Red Moon references the reddish hue seen during total lunar eclipses, often called Blood Moons.
For these new editions, Arnold & Son has chosen a stainless steel case, a departure from the precious metals often associated with the collection. Measuring 41.5mm in diameter and 11.67mm thick, the polished case offers a versatile and contemporary feel while allowing the elaborate dial work to take centre stage. The proportions remain elegant, and the relatively slim profile ensures comfortable daily wear. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with AR coating, and the display caseback offers a view of the movement. Water resistance is 30m.
The oversized moon-phase display remains. Occupying much of the upper half of the dial, the moon is rendered in coloured mother-of-pearl and enhanced with Super-LumiNova beneath the disc, making it glow softly against the dark sky in low light.
The dial and the night sky surrounding the moon are crafted from mother-of-pearl that has been coloured through a controlled Physical Vapour Deposition process. Available in black, blue or green depending on the model, these surfaces retain the natural iridescence and depth of the organic material while gaining richer, more saturated colours. Completing the astronomical scene are hand-painted representations of the constellations Cassiopeia and Ursa Major, also in luminescent material.
Like earlier models in the series, the new “Colours of the Moon” is powered by the in-house calibre A&S1512. This hand-wound movement delivers an impressive 90-hour power reserve and operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour. Decorated with radiating Côtes de Genève, polished bevels, circular graining and blued screws, it displays the traditional finishing standards. The back of the movement also houses a secondary moon-phase indication, allowing precise adjustment of the complication.
As with previous Perpetual Moon models, the moon-phase mechanism reproduces the lunar cycle with exceptional precision, requiring correction only after many years of continuous operation. Each version is paired with a matching alligator leather strap and produced in a limited series of 18 pieces, priced at CHF 21,100 (incl. VAT).
