Scrolling through Arnold & Son’s portfolio reveals a neat mix of classical watchmaking codes and contemporary touches across all collections. One of the finest examples is the DSTB 42, which reveals its jumping seconds mechanism smack-bang on the dial. That’s also the reasoning behind its name, by the way, as DSTB refers to Dial Side True Beat. New for 2025 are a duo of rather tasty dial colours, as Arnold & Son introduces the DSTB 42 Mint Green and Ascot Blue, in red gold or platinum cases.

With the 2023 salmon editions, Arnold & Son reduced the DSTB’s case size from 44mm to 42mm across, and these two follow in the same dimensional footsteps. With this new size, the DSTB is pleasantly proportioned and sits well-balanced on the wrist. The finishing is elegant and refined, and the flat crown is a very nice and comfortable touch. Naturally, there’s a sapphire crystal covering the front as well as the back.

New for these two are the colours for the dial. The red gold case is paired with a tasty Mint Green dial, while the platinum gets a fresh Ascot Blue one. Both are finished with a grained texture before being PVD coated. The time is indicated on a white opal dial in the bottom right corner for the hours and minutes, with the jumping seconds mechanism dominating the upper left corner. The bridges for the mechanism are in 18k gold to match the case, and the hands are blued, with a small dose of Super-LumiNova in the tips for the ones for the hours and minutes.

Technically, nothing has changed, as both still rely on the in-house-made Calibre A&S6203 automatic. The finishing of the rotor changes depending on the material for the case, but it runs at a rate of 28,800vph and offers a power reserve of 55 hours regardless. The key element is, of course, the true-beat, or jumping second mechanism, which is placed on the dial side as indicated by its name.

These new variations of the Arnold & Son DSTB 42mm come on either dark blue or dark green alligator leather strap (depending on the case/dial pairing) and a case-matching pin buckle. Both are limited to just 18 pieces and have a price of CHF 42,700 in red gold or CHF 54,600 in platinum, including VAT.
