The history of Angelus dates back to 1891, when the brand was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland, by the Stolz brothers. Together, they laid the foundations for a brand that would become renowned for its pioneering movements and chronographs. Angelus introduced its first wrist chronographs in 1925, marking a key milestone in the brand’s evolution. Launched in 1942, the Chronodato was one of the first serially produced chronographs to display a full calendar.
After a period of inactivity following the quartz crisis, Angelus was revived in 2011, re-establishing itself as a distinctive name in contemporary haute horlogerie. Today, based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the Maison combines its rich watchmaking heritage with a forward-thinking vision, producing mechanical timepieces in limited quantities and specialising in skeletonised movements, openworked dials and high complications.
Angelus designs and develops high-complication movements in-house, with the support of its movement-manufacturing partner, La Joux-Perret. Its contemporary offering comprises two distinctive collections. The first, L.A.B. (Legacy and Beyond), showcases contemporary flying tourbillons and skeletonised chronograph flying tourbillons, crafted from ultra-lightweight materials such as titanium and carbon composite to highlight the brand’s technical innovation. The second, LA FABRIQUE, pays homage to Angelus’s historical legacy through chronographs and quarter-repeaters that combine vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern mechanical precision.
Angelus was awarded the 2025 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) Chronograph Prize for its Chronographe Télémètre. This recognition underscores the Maison’s commitment to technical excellence and its ability to reinterpret its historic expertise through innovative contemporary watchmaking.
