Few complications are as closely associated with Patek Philippe as the World Time. Born in the 1930s and based on the invention of Louis Cottier, the system allows reading of the 24 time zones via a rotating city ring and a 24-hour disc, while local time is indicated centrally. Over the decades, Patek has refined its mechanics and aesthetics, and the World Time is now one of its most recognisable and collectable complications. In recent years, the compact 36mm format has been represented by the gem-set 7130 series. The new 7129J-001, the first non-gem-set version of this smaller World Time, is an unexpectedly bold interpretation that expands the series. A small watch, but with a very strong presence.

The fully polished 18k yellow gold case measures 36mm in diameter and just 9.18mm in height. The proportions remain consistent with the 7130 lineage. The time-zone selection pusher is at 10 o’clock; the crown is in its usual position at 3; the sapphire crystal protects the dial and is featured on the caseback; and water-resistance is 30m.

Without the diamond-set bezel, the dial makes its statement. Made in a striking carmine-red lacquer, it has a hand-guilloché centre with a basketweave pattern for added depth beneath the vivid colour. The familiar World Time display features a city ring, a 24-hour disc with day/night indication, and central hands for local time. The contrast between the red tones and the rhodium-plated night zone enhances legibility. Applied yellow gold arrow markers and lozenge-shaped hands complete the composition.

The watch is powered by the ultra-thin calibre 240 HU, an automatic movement with a micro-rotor. The movement integrates Patek’s patented single pusher system, enabling all indications to advance synchronously when changing time zones without interrupting the watch’s operation.

The new Patek Philippe World Time 7129J-001 in yellow gold is worn on a carmine-red alligator strap, reinforcing the look. The strap is closed with a yellow gold folding clasp. Price is to be confirmed. For more, please visit patek.com.
