Maurice Lacroix Refines the Aikon Automatic Chronograph for its Tenth Anniversary

A smaller case, an updated dial and an extended power reserve give the brand’s integrated sports chronograph a sharper feel.

Introduced in 2016, the Aikon collection has become a cornerstone of Maurice Lacroix’s catalogue, combining an integrated design with sporty details and accessible Swiss mechanics. Initially available with quartz movements, the collection added automatic versions in 2018, including the Automatic Chronograph. Now, ten years after the Aikon’s debut, Maurice Lacroix revisits its automatic chronograph with a nice update. The overall design remains, but the proportions, pushers, dial and movement have all been updated.

The stainless steel case, satin-brushed and polished, now measures 42mm in diameter and 14mm thick, compared with the original chronograph’s 44mm by 15mm. The bezel retains its six signature polished claws, and the 3 o’clock crown keeps its design, though it now has a crown guard. The caseback is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal. The previous generation’s screw-down chronograph pushers give way to rectangular pushers said to be inspired by the earliest Aikon Chronograph models. Water-resistance is now 100m, down from the earlier model’s 200m.

Maurice Lacroix has also reworked the dial, giving its signature Clous de Paris pattern greater depth. The raised pyramidal texture brings a bit more excitement to the chronograph display without changing its familiar layout: two chronograph counters display elapsed minutes at 12 o’clock and elapsed hours at 6, while running seconds sit at 9. A day-date aperture at 3 o’clock completes the display. Rhodium-plated hands and indices (slightly updated) retain the familiar Aikon design, with white Super-LumiNova for low-light legibility.

The new collection launches with five references. Three have matching dials and snailed counters in blue, black or green, and two more offer contrasting configurations: a silver dial with blue counters and a gold-toned dial with black counters.

The updated Aikon Automatic Chronograph series is powered by the latest version of the automatic ML112 calibre, supplied by Sellita (ETA/Valjoux 7750 base). Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement now offers a power reserve of more than 60 hours, a substantial improvement over the original model’s 42 hours. The movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, with perlage and Côtes de Genève decoration, as well as a new openworked rotor with the brand’s logo.

The watch is worn on a stainless steel bracelet with satin-brushed links (with polished accents). Maurice Lacroix has equipped the new generation with its Easy Change system, allowing you to swap the bracelet for the optional rubber strap without tools. The release mechanism is concealed within the design, maintaining the lines of the integrated construction.

Released as a permanent collection, each new Aikon Automatic Chronograph is priced at CHF 3,150 or EUR 3,690, both including taxes. More details on mauricelacroix.com.
