Louis Moinet Memoris Titanium

The Louis Moinet Memoris was introduced in 2016 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ateliers and the 200th anniversary of the Compteur de Tierces, the innovative stopwatch created by Louis Moinet. Today, the brand brings new, lightweight versions of its original chronograph with full display of the mechanics. Meet the new Louis Moinet Memoris Titanium.

As a reminder, Louis Moinet has a distinguished history in the field of chronographs. Indeed, this master watchmaker created the Compteur de Tierces back in 1816. This stopwatch was designed to time the passage of stars, measuring events to the 60th of a second with start, stop and reset functions. To reach this impressive precision, its balance wheel had to beat at 216,000 vibrations per hour!

To pay tribute to this 1816 timepiece that was lightyears ahead of its time, the Louis Moinet Memoris puts the chronograph function centre stage, while the indication of the time (hours and minutes) is relegated to a 6 o’clock position on a subsidiary dial. The chronograph mechanism is at the heart of its design and is on full display at 12 o’clock with the column wheel driving all functions, including the horizontal clutch. The two transparent registers feature the small seconds and the chronograph minutes. As often with Louis Moinet, the watch is richly decorated and there is a lot going on. Still, this 3D architecture with each part capturing light on its various surfaces is truly eye-catching. Operating the chronograph is both playful and educational.

Until now, the Louis Moinet Memoris had been only crafted in gold. Two limited editions are now presented in grade 5 titanium with a blue or blue/orange lacquered décor.

Made of 52 parts, the grade 5 titanium case measures 46mm x 15.75mm. In the typical Louis Moinet style, it stands out with its tapered-profile 6-screw bezel. The large fluted crown is practical to operate. It is adorned with the brand’s Fleur de Lys logo, a symbol of royalty. The action on the single push-piece is nice and crisp with a pleasant click. To enhance the grip, its surface has been engraved with a Clous de Paris motif. The lugs feature black zircons set into chatons held by three screws. The water-resistance is rated at 50 metres. On the wrist, the watch has a commanding presence, in particular, the blue/orange version. Thanks to the use of ultra-light titanium, it is comfortable despite its large dimensions.

Secured by seven screws, the exhibition caseback offers a view on the other side of the automatic calibre LM79, made of 302 parts. Designed and manufactured with Concepto, this 30.4mm movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 48h power reserve. It is nicely decorated and the finishing includes Geneva stripes, diamond polished facets, diamond-cut chamfers and a pink gold guilloché rotor.

The Louis Moinet Memoris is presented on a hand-stitched navy blue alligator leather strap with alligator lining. A quick-release spring bar system allows you to change the watch strap easily. It is secured to the wrist thanks to a triple folding buckle in the shape of the brand’s Fleur de Lys symbol. Both watches are limited editions of 28 pieces and retail for CHF 26,000.
