IWC adds the stainless steel Ingenieur Dual Time to the Ingenieur collection

IWC Ingenieur Dual Time IW324404

Every year IWC redesigns / updates one of the six ‘families’ in their collection and this year that was the Aquatimer family. Last year it was the Ingenieur family of watches that we extensively covered here, here, here and here. Although this is the ‘Aquatimer year’, IWC has just announced two new members of the Ingenieur family of watches: a carbon/ceramic Ingenieur Automatic and a stainless steel Ingenieur Dual Time with either a silver-plated or a black dial.

The new Ingenieur Dual Time merges the functionality of the Ingenieur Dual Time Titanium (that we reviewed here) with the aesthetics of the Ingenieur Automatic (fully reviewed here). Not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of size, it stays close to the titanium Dual Time, measuring 43 mm in diameter and 13.5 mm in height. The new Ingenieur Dual Time is an alternative for the Rolex GMT-Master II, because it features a similar functionality that is the independently adjustable hour hand. Something we like to refer to as a traveler-GMT.

On the left is reference IW324404 with silver-plated dial that features a light grey and navy blue 24-hour track for the second time zone hand, and matching navy blue filled hour markers. Reference IW324402, with black dial on the right, features a black/grey 24-hour track around the dial and white filled hour markers. At the 3 o’clock position is a date window; the date is linked to the home time.

The  movement is the self-winding caliber 35720, with a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The hour hand can be adjusted both forward and backward in one-hour increments, while the 24-hour GMT hand indicates the home time. For globetrotters the new Ingenieur Dual Time is a great option, when looking for a perfect all-round travel watch. It’s not too large (43mm; in comparison to the Ingenieur chronograph models that are 45.5 mm in diameter), looks great with suit/tie and equally good with a casual outfit, and features the beautifully finished and very comfortable Ingenieur bracelet.

Some specifications:

  • Case: stainless steel, 43 mm in diameter, 13.5 mm in height, flat sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both sides, steel case back, water resistant to 12 bar (120 meters).
  • Movement: calibre 35720, 28,800 vph (4Hz), 27 jewels, 42 hours of power reserve, automatic winding, hour hand adjustable in one-hour steps (TZC = Time Zone Corrector) – 24-hour display (second local time) – Date display

The Ingenieur Dual Time will be in stores this summer and retails for € 8,700 Euro. More info: www.iwc.com
