Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Utra-Thin-1948

When Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Grande Reverso Ultra-Thin Tribute to 1931, at the SIHH 2011, it was an instant hit. The legendary and iconic Reverso might just have found its perfect dimensions, with the ultra-thin case that is just 7.2 mm in height. With the newest version, the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1948, JLC harks back to the 17th anniversary of the Reverso and the time when ‘Fabriqué en Suisse’ was printed on the dial.

This latest version of the Reverso Ultra Thin is in good company. In 2012 Jaeger-LeCoultre already introduced the Grande Reverso 1931 Rouge, a boutique edition with a stunning dark red dial, and in January of this year they introduced a pink gold version with chocolate dial. The latest version, which we like a lot, features a striking silvery white dial, with a blue rail track minute chapter around the dial, blue applied hour markers, blue facetted baton-type hands, and as said before, with “Fabriqué en Suisse” (made in Switzerland) on the dial, just underneath the Jaeger-LeCoultre signature.

Another addition is the small off center second sub dial. It is shaped square, befitting the entire watch’s style, and also features a miniature rail track second chapter ring (err… square). The entire watch measures 7.3 mm in height, while the swivel case alone is around 6mm thick. The mechanical movement, the manually wound manufacture calibre 822/2, has to fitted in that slim case.

This movement has been in production for decades, and which has been proven to be reliable. It was also used in the Reverso Grand Taille, which was introduced in 1991. However this calibre 822 is actually the same as IWC calibre 89, although calibre 822 is a non-round movement. Calibre 89 is used (among others) in the W.W.W. watches that we told you about last Friday.  So, it’s safe to say that calibre 822, or the calibre 822/2 with additional small seconds, has been proven to be reliable.

The movement is entirely crafted, assembled and decorated by hand. It measures a mere 2.94 mm in height and beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The new Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1948 comes on an alligator leather strap, with steel pin buckle, and it’s available exclusively from Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques, for a retail price of € 7.500 Euro.
